well valve just fired about 25 people including Jeri Elisworth, who is worth having on any team

Valve is a powerhouse company and Gabe is one of the richest men around due to it, but why they let her go is beyond me, she is a hardware genius
It seems like the Steambox platform is going all outside companies\

The LBJ speech by Gabe is great as it highlights what is holding back the gaming market and why consoles are a hindrance and apple is a threat, also it's very business saavy.

Some really forward thinking stuff here. Makes me appreciate Valve as a company a lot more. It's a shame more companies don't try to improve their product to the extent that Valve does.

Valve is smart business wise, maybe not so much as game devs. CD Projekt Red is another forward thinking company (The Witcher series, Cyberpunk) who give large free content updates other companies would charge as DLC etc, and their parent company CD Projekt runs GOG, one of the few DRM free shops with loads of extra value added to purchases.
I know I'm known as a gaming nerd round here, and maybe I bash consoles a bit too much, but the PC market is interesting as hell atm business and model wise.
Compared to the companies I listed you have companies like EA and Capcom trying to microtransaction things to death.
It's an odd time.

Valve has done a lot for pc gaming and without steam it would be in a much more awful place. Once I really started getting into steam I completely stopped pirating any game.

The beauty of being a private company is they don't have to answer to shareholders and only have to answer to their fans.
While I have my qualms with some aspects of Steam, they have yet as a game company have yet to put out any bad games and have come up with one of the most profitable and most used digital distribution platforms.

Well they're one of the few companies to not constantly be fucking over their consumers, and they actually got microtransactions right. Being the head of that company kind of goes hand in hand with it, along with how the company is ran.
His talks on business and tech are pretty much always on point.
That's where the worship comes from (and Half Life).
