Egyptian Avenue 002
Filter Dread - Underground / Troubled
SoundcloudSoundcloud
Following the success of label boss Epoch’s collaborative ‘Hydraulics’ release with Keysound’s Wen, Egyptian Avenue Records continue to build momentum by welcoming the exploratory sounds of London’s Filter Dread into the mix for EGPTVN002. Having debuted a collection of macabre and spatial grime fusions on Visionist’s fledgling Lost Codes imprint last year, Filter Dread solidifies his position as one of the most intriguing producers around with these two uniquely crafted beats that err towards the abstract and uncertain end of the bass-centric sonic spectrum. Both label and artist are emerging as bright lights amidst a deluge of creativity surrounding the resurgence of experimental eski-referenced instrumentals/ general left-field bass deviance, and the Egyptian Avenue + Filter Dread partnership here has yielded some particularly heavy results. Far removed from over-processed and over-polished production, the A-side ‘Underground’ is as raw as they come. Loosely applied drum skeletons and a 135bpm tempo sets a languid pace before the beat is engulfed by hyper pressurized square-wave bassline warps designed to duppy any soundsystem. The flipside ‘Troubled’ sees him rein back the intensity a little, applying misty, ethereal textures accented by iced-out synths, sparse percussion and the low rumble of measured sub-frequencies, providing balance and a complete-switch to the rude dancefloor energy of the A-Side. A pair of contrasting and engaging riddims available exclusively through Juno on Friday the 8th of March 2013.
