How to make Datsik Firepower sound effect after drop?

Post by MeesterHarry » Fri Mar 22, 2013 3:28 pm

Hi guys, I was just wondering, in the song "Firepower" by Datsik, When the guy says "Your guns go *click click* POW" and it drops, how do you make that sound after the High-Pitched drop? or if you can just send me a link to a tutorial or just tell me what you call that sound

Hope you know what I'm talking about

Thanks

Okay, right after the drop, theres only really 3 sounds - the drums, a low-frequency bass, and a higher-frequency bass. The low-freq bass, to me, sounds like a filter-cutoff LFO modulated sawtooth wave. it comes in groups of 3 "womps" at a time. then you also got the drums which should be self-explanatory. that leaves the higher-freq bass, which is what you're looking for (I think).

again, to me, this sounds like a screamer bass. its a mid-range bass, so if you're trying to make this, you should use 3rd or 4th octave notes and/or use EQ to boost the mid-range (which is approximately, in my opinion, 250 Hz and above). if you're using a synth with presets, look for one called "screamer bass" or something like that.

Yeah I bet Datsik just Googled screamer bass preset and just chucked that in his track.

@OP - you wanted the sounded after the high pitched lead right? Make a decent bass patch in any synth (i.e. one with a good low end and mid - tbh you could probably get away with a thick detuned saw bass) and place a saw shaped LFO on a lowpass or similar filter (tweak the cutoff and reso to taste). Now play with the LFO rate till the bass "chugs" in time with how you want it - the filter should effectively chop the sound. Also theres a thread in the forum called "machine gun bass" - that'll probably help. Obviously the sound has post-synth FX on like disto/eq/tight delay & reverb etc... but i cba talking you through all that, just see what sounds good.

^I'm saying if this guy wants to recreate a similar sound, a screamer bass preset isn't a bad idea to start off with. I have no idea how datsik himself made that sound. if you can tell exactly how he made it just by listening, then all the more power to ya.

Also, I'm not so sure that bass has an LFO on it. I suppose I could be wrong but it doesn't sound like it has an LFO to me.

I heard Datsik likes manual sidechaining, so I'd assume he likes manual LFO.

We're talking about different "basses" in that track, from what I read the OP wanted the sound after the one you explained.

No probs man :W: , I use LFO'd synths like that a lot, makes shit sound groovy.

Having stuff with a triplet-time LFO on and then adding a standard 4x4 sidechain to it gives a really nice pattern I find.

Try creating a similar sound in massive (probs with a screamer), after it's as close as you can get it, automate the volume on an LFO outside of massive over the patch to get rid of the overly screechy-ness you'll get from using a screamer so heavily, sort of removes that metallic sound that massive always has when the LFO is turning around. I say this because all the sounds in that tune are pretty well defined and clean.

He uses massives performer for his basses. He creates his bass, then randomises a bunch of different performer settings on lfos / amps etc... bounces each part to audio and chops it up.
