Easy Synthesizer for Basics!

So I finally took the step and bought Logic Pro after needing it for a few other applications (well, didn't need, but I've been wanting to dive into production for a while, so I made the excuse ). I grabbed a copy of the Dance Music Manual, since I really want to know the foundations behind everything.

Is there a small, easy, simple synthesizer that I can plug in to see how the basic attack/delay, amplitude, etc affect the sound? I've played around with Massive on a friend's comp, but it seems too complex for this use.

I'm brand new, so if anyone needs more info, let me know. Thanks so much for any help!

TAL-Bassline is not only very easy to use/understand, its also free!!! It's also one of my favourite synths for simple monophonic leads and basses

Logic comes stock with plenty of synths - ES1, ES2, Sculpture and a few others. Some are simple and some are complex.

Don't listen to anyone that doesn't say ES1 or ES2 - it's simple as can be really. All synthesizers are the same in theory though. Some have more bells and whistles, but on a fundamental level, they're all the same.

Use Logic's built in ES2, learn the fundamentals of sound design, then once you're comfortable with the theories take it to a bigger synth such as Massive or Sylenth.

Grab a copy of computer music magazine. You'll get plenty of great (free) synths and they do a lot of tutorials using those synths. They also do a focus each (recent) issue on a specific synth that comes with the mag.

I don't know if you can get the Triple Oscillator (free 3xosc clone) standalone on Mac. If so, that's a very good and easy option.

+1 for ES2 - don't let the somewhat bizarre and daunting GUI put you off!

Sylenth1. It was my first real synth, and I never even had to use a tutorial. and musicradar.com ranks it the #1 VST plug-in synth in the world.

I recommend Diva, it's great fun and has new modules coming out in about a month. Although you need a phat CPU to run it.

It appears TripleOscillator is bound to LMMS just as 3xosc is bound to FL Studio. However, there are a bunch of good, free synth plugins here. Pick the prettiest one and start playing with it.

^Ya, for me superwave p8 was the prettiest/most intuitive gui when I was starting out. Synth1 is a good pick too, has an arpeggiator too! Massive is pretty straightforward looking imo.
