Pearson Sound's kick in "Stifle"

Post by BananaClips » Sun Apr 28, 2013 7:50 pm

i'm looking for the deep bass kick rama uses in "stifle". it starts at 2:33.

i thought it must be an 808 kick obviously, but i can't get my 808 kits to produce this kind of kick. either it's from a different synth or he somehow modified it... according to my newbieesque line of thought.

It's something similar to a sub drop. Just make a subbass patch (-24 sine, (add -24 smooth square too, all the way left if you're using massive) put a very fast envelope on pitch +24, +36, +48, any of those (make sure it's very fast) and add another envelope which isn't that fast on +12 pitch, that should work.

I actually made a kick pretty similar to this once, if you want I can upload a screen shot of the massive patch I used. I also have some external processing on it as well, but that was just to get it to sound full

thanks guys for the info. i am totally new to synthesis but i own massive, so i will try to make something out of your advice. i actually intended to mess with a simpler freeware vst for a start before turning to massive. PillowFight, that picture would sure help a lot though.

I ran it through an EQ, put on some parallel compression, then bused everything together and ran it through camelphat with some light distortion, compression, and that's it

Note that oscillator #2 is the only oscillator that's turned on. Also, in the voicing tab everything is set to exactly the same as before except with monorotate and legato

Sine wave >> quick attack, medium release, >> Pitch envelope (the most important thing) >> Boost bottom end slightly

Could also get close with right 808 samples and messing with pitch envelopes on there - wave alchemy 808s are good. Goldbaby ones don't sound that clean
