50 Carrot style bass
50 Carrot style bass
Is this kind of "dirty/grimey" bass like this only possible in Reason?
Soundcloud
The synth sounds like a distorted horn....I've pretty much mastered Massive, can't seem to get it just right. I think I might have to use another synth.

Just buy as many $200 synths as possible so you can be bad at all of them.

I nominate this for the best reply of 2013.Coolschmid wrote:Just buy as many $200 synths as possible so you can be bad at all of them.

You've pretty much mastered massive, so it should be no problem...right?mo_0kz wrote:thanks for both of your help. appreciate it.ephyks wrote:I nominate this for the best reply of 2013.Coolschmid wrote:Just buy as many $200 synths as possible so you can be bad at all of them.

There is a point at which it's time to stop spending money and time to start learning.
Re: 50 Carrot style bass
your retarded, learning never stops there is no such thing as mastering something unless you over power the knowledge of the ones who are on beatport top 10 list, but not even, big names use only massive and getting wicked results becasue they know what the fuck to do and actually worked their ass off to get where they are, you wont go anywhere your staying in one spot little boy

Because being mad raises your blood pressure and causes an earlier death.Dahneboy wrote:why

How were you not mad
Do you just walk around yelling at everyone normally?

Re: 50 Carrot style bass
Most of his stuff sounds to be FM fuckery using Subtractor
reckon you can use any FM synth to get similar results...
My recommendation is to find a nice group of oscillators that FM nicely together first (usually sine wave sounds cleanest as the carrier, but always experiment). Once you have a nice sound start messing around with modulations. The nice thing about Reason is you have the CVs to modulate just about anything, but most plug-in's these days have enough options to get the job done.
Some things to try:
Envelope -> FM amount
Envelope -> LFO amount
LFO -> phase (can create a different sort of wobble besides an LFO)
LFO -> pitch (vibrato)
LFO -> filter envelope retrigger (tightens wobble)
LFO -> amp envelope (more tightness)
After you have a decent starting patch, try duplicating the patch and layering them together. Make small changes to the oscillator, pitch, and modulation options to get more movement/complexity.
Honestly the real magic comes into play with the distortion. If you're using Reason you'll have the advantage of the CV controls on Scream 4, but otherwise I'm sure you can figure out a way to add modulation.
The Scream 4 "body" section can make or break your sound. It basically changes the tonality of the distortion using resonance.
Turn it on and bring the resonance up to 12 o clock. The scale knob relates to the presence of the body and the auto knob adjusts the amount of control that the built in envelope follower has control over the scale knob. I always crank the resonance up too far to begin with so that I can easily hear the effect and then scale it back to taste.
Route an LFO or envelope from your starting patch to control the body to get a "phasery" kind of effect. The auto knob is great because if you have a well-shaped amp/filter envelope, you can get some vowel-y wah-wah sounds.
Don't forget to experiment with taking the CV out from Scream 4 and bringing it back to modulate the synth patch. The fact that the CV signal generated by the auto knob is a reflection of the synths amplitude, it can be useful to enhance existing modulations in an organic way. You could even try summing each of the CV signal sent to pre-existing destinations with a little bit of voltage from the auto follower to really accentuate the shape of the bass.
That's it for now, goodluck
