Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
i started as a reason user and still use it today, thought not as much. i just dont understand why they're still behind, all while keep kicking updates out the door quite often, but IMO they're not big updates. I expected what reason 7 has to be included in reason 6, nvm 6.5. and now 7 has come along. IMO they should have waited another year and gave practically all the stock plugs a makeover, AT LEAST the ones that need attention, such as the MClass units. im liking what i see from reason but i still wouldnt use it as my main daw since moving to logic. and updating to 7 is pointless for me unless i plan on using reason as my main daw, which i dont so..
what do you guys think? did you guys not expect reason to be pushing these things out a bit earlier? and at least focusing on revamping the stock plugs that need attention. after using logics stock plugins i just feel like reasons was lacking, especially as i said the compressor and what not.

I started using reason to rewire into logic a while ago and I just have to say, I CANNOT see the difference between 5, 6 and 6.5.

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
I feel like what was accomplished between 6, 6.5, and 7 should have all been by addressed with the 6.0 update before.
6 was record intergration and a rack extension beta with echo, alligator, and pulverizer.
6.5 added rack extensiosn(pretty much restricted vst).
7 is midi out, recycle intergration, and a proper spectrum analyzer(finally).
The theme being catching up to other daws in all those updates.
I might just ride out 6.5 to see what 8 or 7.5 offers since they can be creative again now that they are on even footing with other daws.

yeah i agree. i honestly thought 6 would bring what 6.5 and 7 have brought. and im wondering, can the new spectrum eq only be used once per channel? and can you select whether its at the beginning or at the end of the chain? if you can only use it once that kind of sucks because id like to use that eq as a mclass eq replacement..Efrafa11 wrote:I feel like what was accomplished between 6, 6.5, and 7 should have all been by addressed with the 6.0 update before.

I could swear I saw a screenshot with a couple instances of the spectrum analyzer floating around but I imagine they would make it a regular rack effect.Eat Bass wrote:yeah i agree. i honestly thought 6 would bring what 6.5 and 7 have brought. and im wondering, can the new spectrum eq only be used once per channel? and can you select whether its at the beginning or at the end of the chain? if you can only use it once that kind of sucks because id like to use that eq as a mclass eq replacement..
I'm not a huge fan of the Mclass everything really, I was thinking of buying the trident eq but thats around the same price as the upgrade which I dunno if I could justify.
Although the trident sounds friggen gorgeous...
It would be nice to get more useful freeware every once while as well.
I guess thats why I should keep reaper installed as well
Edit: Some new graintables in malstrom would make me forget everything propellerhead does wrong though

yeah i wonder if there will be any new wavetables? and the video i saw you pulled up the spectrum eq through a button on the mixer, so it didnt look like you could run multiple as a rack, but im not totally sure if theres another option to pull it up or anything, plus if you look the spectrum eq is never in the rack its just a floating window.
Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
Oops yeah, It looks like there is one SA dedicated per mix channel which is a bit of a let down.

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
yeah it kind of sucks because reason is such an awesome piece of software but they're missing just a few major but easy to fix things. its almost stupid. like im wondering what the hell they're thinking over at propellerhead. these ideas and changes are not very hard to see and the user base has been requesting these things for years. they should have included a linear phase spectrum eq on the master channel like they have implemented the current sprectrum eq, but had the current spectrum eq be a rack unit so that it can be used like the mclass eq both creatively and for mixing. disappointing. when will they learn.Efrafa11 wrote:Oops yeah, It looks like there is one SA dedicated per mix channel which is a bit of a let down.
Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
I've had no qualms with Reason 7 so far...
Parallel processing is the shit
Spectrum analyzer is the shit
Comping is the shit
time stretching is the shit
It's all stuff that could be done outside of Reason before 7, but the way in which Props implemented it is what's great.
It's fast, it's easy, it's got good sound... in ways that other DAW's don't.
I don't know what the big deal is either about updating MClass units... they do just what they should without being over elaborate. Plus, there are 4 compressors in Reason 7 with a bunch available as RE's.
Been hearing rumors of Propellerhead developing a tubesock compressor for Reason 7.5 as well.

If I had the money, I would produce solely with the exact kind of setup Reason emulates.
But I don't, so I use Reason.

i really wish there was a VST maelstrom, id save up & pay the price of any NI synth for it.
closest VSTs iv found to it are sonigen modular and VAZ modular which you can use custom samples as wavetables. VAZ modular is insanely powerful but maelstrom still sounds better

yeah but this is all shit that could have been done a long time ago along with a lot of other things. IMO these things should have happened even before RE's, but no they decided to focus on RE's instead. they should have got their software to a very high potential then focused on RE's IMO.MoonUnit wrote:I've had no qualms with Reason 7 so far...

if you could import custom graintables to malstrom would be pretty intense too

Re: Reason - fast useful updates but way late to the game...
Think the upgrade is worth it for people that use reason standalone. New features are pretty useful.
Being able to register my computer to my reason license is great, not having to be connected to the internet or having the ignition key in taking a usb port up.
Quick access the mixer faders in the rack view is really nice, been using that a lot as well as busing.
The spectrum eq is only available as one per channel, but it can be opened all the time, so if you had another monitor you could put it over on that and it automatically changes to what ever device you have selected. Only 6 bands though (LPF, HPF, and a low, 2 mids and a high eq) but you control devices with it open so its possible to eq and still see the spectrum.
but yeah I do think the should of spent more time creating one bigger update, like adding recording but not adding external midi at the same time would of been more useful.

I think people misjudge what Propellerhead intended Reason to be. Until very recently it was never intended to be a stand alone DAW, Prop are taking it in that direction now and i agree with every change they've made. I dont have 7 yet but 6.5 for one revolutionised how I produce.
I know producers who make decent tunes with nothing but Reason 5. Spectrum analysers and audio tracks may help some, but the proof is in people who can make amazing tracks with nothing but Thors, Kongs and MClass.
Melodic deepness from my mind.
