Whoosh before a snare?
I've googled this and haven't really found a good description, but what I'm looking for is how to add a whoosh before the snare hits sorta like Getter does in a lot of his tracks, and xKore does in his. If this is really obvious and I look stupid, I apologize:/

Re: Whoosh before a snare?
yeah look up reverse reverb too to make the effect more dramatic.
Re: Whoosh before a snare?
You can reverse anything with a decay. Most of the time the whoosh effect is done with a reverse crash. Sometimes with a reverse snare or you record the reverb alone on a send track and reverse that.
It's pretty much an indispensable effect of electronic music for sudden changes and sudden introduction of new elements, sudden break and shit. You can reverse vocal or reverse reverb of vocals, reverse piano, etc so when you introduce a new sound or transition it's not as sudden.
Ableton has a reverse button on sound clips (not midi). I dunno about other daws.

Logic has a reverse clip as well, but just make sure to bounce it first or else it will edit your original sample permanently.
Also, if you're ballsy enough you can use a high-passed reverse kick

Re: Whoosh before a snare?
Take your snare, reverse it, pitch it -100/-200 semitones, lower the volume.
Align it so that it bleeds into your actual snare hit, but make sure it doesn't interfere with the actual punch of your snare.

Thanks for the help! I made a whoosh-y snare I like and I'm sure it won't be the last:)

FL Studio has one of those too ... and it doesn't permanetly alter your original sample. FL STUDIO FTW!!! :oblivious:PillowFight wrote:Logic has a reverse clip as well, but just make sure to bounce it first or else it will edit your original sample permanently.

As the others said, reverse reverb is great for abrubt transitions, but use it sparingly.
Re: Whoosh before a snare?
I would say that's a reversed snare that's been pitched down an octave.

Re: Whoosh before a snare?
any pre-wooshing sound is usually a percussion sound with reverb applied, bounced down then reversed. sometimes with out reverb. you could do it with a synth sound with a bit of attack.
Re: Whoosh before a snare?
Maybe even modulate a filter on some white noise?
