Tutorial Videos

Post by lloydy » Wed May 01, 2013 10:11 pm

Hello,i've wanted to do tutorial videos for a while and have put my first together.
Theres no talking,it's more just about the way i work which i think speaks volumes in itself,i don't slow myself down with being really technical with my approach.
It's kind of like trail and error till i get something i like which is pretty much how i approach most of my tracks.
Now the first video i was asked to do something about the way i work with breaks,i decided on using the amen break because it's an obvious break that most people can relate too.The video is short and it's my first so any hating then you can all blow me and like fuck will i do anymore lol
Next i'm thinking about recording a whole session where i build a track from the ground up,i will cut out the best most informative sections and upload these if there are any :6:

Anyway first video

Any questions i will answer regarding logic or anything else but i hope the newbs get a little help from this.

Nice beats man, you should definitely get some vocal explanation going on in them as well, although the majority of this stuff is self explanatory, some people might not understand the flex view in logic etc. and the vocals just keep it a little interesting during the dead parts. Where'd you get your starting sample from? EDIT: facepalming really hard, obv amen break is obv >.>

Tbh its my house as well, kids and noisy dogs + huge fishtank with built in noisy filtration so finding quiet times is non existent!i will try at a later date, maybe use my laptop and camp out in the kitchen.

Cutting and editing breaks isn't a hard thing to do once you practice, there is no real easy way to doing it other than by ear and eye.If it sounds good to you it more than likely does. Also anything and everything inspires me to be creative,it's the one aspect of us as individuals people can not interfere with so thats inspiration enough for me.

I'm thinking of building a whole tune bit by bit and screen capturing the whole process in short videos,i saved this tutorial vid so can go back to it and keep adding.i'm pretty sure youtube only allows 10min videos so may start doing one or two a week.
I own a virus ti and every softsynth you can think,if people suggest techniques they would like to see then i shall make sure to add them in my process.I don't go for bro/skrillex type sounds but am pretty handy at reeces and other hard basslines so we will see.

I'm willing to post in here about my processes if people are interested,i can probably wright up a better explanation of logic's flex editor than i could in a vid so again if it's asked then i shall answer! Also if you don't know the amen break from the first 2 seconds of audio you need shooting, just saying lol

All good brother, still waiting to get some vid tips from you!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe, not a bad idea to be honest,i will try adding voice at some point maybe on my next video.will try get something down by the end of the week and just keep this thread rolling.

Also anyone that has any stuff they would like to see added fire away.
Synths i own:
Access virus TI
Native instruments:
Massive
Fm8
Absynth
Monark
Razor
Arturia:
arp2600
cs80v
jupiter-8v2
moog modular v
prohet v2
brass
Izotope:
Iris
Honestly more effect plugins than you could shake a stick at,main sampler is kontakt5 which i use for a fair chunk of my sound design so this will be incorporated.
Again any suggestions do not hesitate to put them and i will definitely have a look!

OP How are you managing to capture that sounds from your daw? With camtasia i'm using my Focurslite Liquid 56 interface, i can record the microphone and the windows system sounds just wont record my cubase audio. I have read up that screen capture softwareS are not able to record asio sound. How do you get around this? Cheers

Yeah i hear you lol,bit of a bitch when i first got it.Its a pretty simple synth when you start just playing about with it.I want to start layering the breaks first so i have quite a few bars to work with but will definitely incorporate razor at some point.Maybe i will try to add a little of all Native instruments synths/samplers as this would probably be what most people are using.i haven't really used monark yet so may build some pads with it for the track and do some bass madness with razor.

Just bare in mind i work "a lot" so i will do some but not finish it all in a day. Also i have so many tracks i want to finish but will definitely try to get a vid uploaded a week.
If anyone can give me any pointers with the audio going out of sync once uploaded to youtube it will be hugely appreciated.
The audio is in sync on my comp but just goes out of sync once uploaded if that helps.
Thanks
