"Sound dispersion ice" is what you're looking for if you want more info...

seriously cool stuff thanks guys. We used to skip big stones over icy ponds and you could hear similar sounds to this.

I think IceVerb in Guitar Rig must emulate this somehow as you can get some pretty similar sounds out of it

That's pretty cool, never would have guessed that's the sound it would make. Then again I've never thrown golf balls at a frozen lake.

Frozen lakes are in short supply here..
That was a seriously awesome sound, i guess i need to think out of the box a bit more for doing recordings.

I recorded a really big frozen lake with hundreds of ice skaters on it once.
The whistling sound you hear is what we call 'singing ice'. Very similar to this.
