Recommended 2013 Albums

Post by Mr Hyde » Thu May 16, 2013 1:38 pm

Seems the only albums I've been looking forward to recently are from people that have been producing for years (Autechre, Bonobo, Boards of Canada, Benga, Major Lazer, Daft Punk).

Any new recommendations?

(There might be a thread like this already but I can't find it)

Yeah new album one of the most boring albums I've heard all year. Only other record that boring is the new James Blake album. If you like either of these you're in the audience area of electronic music that mirrors the people who listen to bands and like Coldplay and Snow Patrol

I gotta recommend so far

Ice age - You're Nothing
Nails - Abandon All Life
Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light
Hey Colossus - Cuckoo Live Life Like Cuckoo
Pissed Jeans - Honeys
Daniel Johnston - Space Ducks

EDIT: Forogot The Haxan Cloak - Evacuation

I can't make it through more than about three tracks on the new album before I just get bored and turn the shit off. It's so bad. His song writing has got so predcitable. The instrumental part of it has been watered painfully down. It's middle of the road music trying hard to be emotional and failing terribly. I just don't like his voice at all either.

Think I might recommend some Polish albums you most probably never had the chance to hear about

Mikrokolektyw - Absent Minded
Kirk - Zła Krew
Kixnare - Red

The last one is a little bit anachronic, "uk bass" inspired but it's worth a listen for this track alone

Nah the Bonobo album is amazing, how can you not love this tune?

Soosh's new album is really good for woozy leftfield stuff, the remixed album is even better.

Lapalux's album Nostalchic is incredible as well:
My name is Dom and I like making ambientish music and drinking tea. Nice to meet you.

Excellent :
- Vatican Shadow - It Stand to Conceal (compilation - vinyl released 2012)

Good :
- V/A - Future Foundations
- V/A - This Is How We Roll
- Miles - Faint Hearted
- Still Corners - Strange Pleasures (warning: gay hipster pop - good!)

Worth a Listen :
- Benjamin Damage - Heliosphere
- Cosmin TRG - Gordian
- Darkstar - News From Nowhere
- Djrum - Seven Lies (I actually expected better after hearing Blue On Blue Voodoo)
- Slava - Raw Solutions
- V/A - Think & Change
- Boris - Preparät
- Jam City - Special Trash Offcuts [free]
- Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement - Black Magic Cannot Cross Water
- The Haxan Cloak - Excavation

Don't bother :
- Gerry Read - Saucepan Jams
- James Blake - Overgrown
- V/A - Tectonic Plates Volume 4 (2 good tracks, but I overall I was very disappointed)
- Lapalux - Nostalchic (bar one track, forgot which)
