Head Room Logic

Post by matty_12 » Sat May 18, 2013 8:19 pm

Okay so a few questions im just gonna bullet point them:

Leave headroom for a final master, okay cool. So i leave around 2-6dB.
Then would it be best to master in the logic file or export then load the wav in a new file to save on cpu, or is there other benefits?
Well i had a little go at this, when i load back in the exported audio, the headroom i left 2dB in this tracks case, was no longer there, i tried normalising on and off the same happened, the level just hit 0db?
Maybe thats a dumb question but if you dont know you dont ask :)
Before exporting the only thing on the master channel was an analyser :)

1. Check the master level fader on your composing/mixing project.
2. Don't ever normalise when going into mastering if you want the headroom.
3. I don't know what 2-6dBs of headroom mix, but if you have frequent peaks occurring at -2dBs then you probably won't have enough headroom.
