I'm baking a cake...

Post by GenericNameHere » Wed May 22, 2013 3:05 pm

I've got the eggs, flour, and everything else I need, but I still can't get this damn thing to rise. The metaphor sucks, but I thought I'd come to the kitchen to listen in on the other chefs' thoughts: How do I get my leads to squeal like some of the stuff I've been hearing lately.

eg. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BGpzGu9Yp6 ... GpzGu9Yp6Y 1:35 in, at the second drop.

It's more prominent on this track, though. It kicks in at 0:27:45 if you're not familiar with this track.

How do I get the synth so squeally yet prominent? All I get is a wail with no punch. BTW, I used Massive; tried the polysaw and Square-Saw2 WT's, with an envelope on the pitch, set to rise two octaves. I tried the scream filter too, still nothing. Do any of you know how to make this obnoxious synth? I love it.

How am I ignoring forum rules? I'm asking for technical advice. I did a search on this: nothing came up. I tried Google, and I tried to check the presets I have; still nothing. So I came here. If you have some advice to offer, maybe I'll take a peak at ur tunage. I don't have an uncapped data package - I use my phone, it has a tiny data cap - so I think it's a fair trade off.

Yeah, tried that, but it didn't help much. The synth needs more puch and something else I can't put my finger on.

Also does Massive's Bitcrusher seem crap to anyone else? I use bitcrushers to make talking basses, but when I use Massive's built-in "bitcrusher," I can't as much get anything resembling a talking bass going. Is it just me?

secret to both those are in the scream filter, also, use sample & hold instead of the bitcrusher in massive

Maybe you don't need to use different effects to get that sound, you just need to use those effects in the right way. Nobody can/isgoingto tell you exactly how to do it, you have the proper components, mess around more and have fun with it.

I've recreated the bun dem bass, I can confirm it's scream filter with an lfo on cutoff and scream.

As for the oscillators, I know it was a Sin-Tri, oscillating between with an lfo, and a -24 sine.

As for the Fx, just mess with shapers or clippers :)

Except he was running the "-24 sine" through a separate channel strip. You don't want those distortion effects or scream on your subs.

The sub is a different track, -24 sine and a +24 sine with a sine shaper gives a whole another sound, it's not for the sub :D

You don't understand...the -24 sine you hear in the skrillex track IS his sub

you dont understand, the -24 sine in the patch is not a sub, the sub is another layer. If you run the -24 sine in the patch through another channel strip, you'd be left with a different sound, not the sound he uses
