Duet 2 or Forte or xxx ?

Post by Hashkey » Sun May 26, 2013 3:11 pm

Heya Guys.
Got some extra cash to throw on a new audio interface, my Budget is around 500 euros.
What would you suggest ?
I can't really decide between those two! maybe there are more valid interfaces for that price that i don't know about.
Thanks!

For around €400-450 you could get a second hand fireface 400. More I/O, rock solid drivers. Might be worth looking into if think you'll need the extra I/O in the future. Might also want to check out the babyface, which is around €550 new and also has more I/O. There difference in sound quality between the duet and the metioned rme's wont be really noticable. Both have good AD/DA. Haven't heard much about the Forte, but I'd go with RME over Focusrite any day.
I may be biased as I'm using the fireface 400 so take my advice with a grain of salt.

I think MOTU is worth looking into as well. I'm running an 828 MKII Firewire and love it. Really great for working with a few outboard synths and external processing. You can also use it as a standalone mixer.

Apogee make some of the most solid pieces of hardware, which is reflected in their price unfortunately. I'd go for the duet 2.

Apollo :Q___ it just costs 2000 euros christ sake.
If I had a lot of money I'd buy that.

Motu makes good soundcards too but I need a portable atm since I'll be travelling a lot.

^ Yeah, but worth every penny from what I've read. And in its price range it supposedly puts everything else to shame, incl. ProTools.
