Want to buy some software.
Something sorted it self out and now I have a bit of cash. I want to buy some VST effects and dont mind spend a bit of cash, for the quality. I have a few VSTi but I don't even know where to start with effects with makes/brands.when I have a google all that I get is all the freeware stuff.
I have a desperate need for a good Brick Wall Limiter.
I could also use a nice reverb. I had a look at lexicon but the cheapest one is $100 and I don't really want to spend that much on one reverb if I don't have too.
I'm also open to anything you guys would say is a must have.
I have about £300 to spend but I want to get a few things.

Buy monitors or nice headphones, use freeware.

Re: Want to buy some software.
I saw you post it in the other thread. It looks nice but it's half my budget. Can it be used as a brick wall limiter because it dosn't say on the webpage.SunkLo wrote:Get this then. http://dmgaudio.com/products_compassion.php
Also because I didn't say before and I can feel someone if going to say it again. If the comparison between freeware synths and the big names is the same with effects then I would be a wise perches.
Re: Want to buy some software.
It's a Swiss army knife. Compression, limiting, expansion, clipping, transient shaping, does it all. Well worth the money.
Compared to buying Pro-L, which costs more and only does one thing well.

Re: Want to buy some software.
whats wrong with your daw's built in effects?
Re: Want to buy some software.
I use Ableton and a lot of the FXs I love but some just don't cut it. Like a phaser and chorus that only work in stereo. The auto filter pisses me of the most, It has a mono/stereo button that disperses when you sync it to the daws tempo. Who designed that????
Also what I said above.

Re: Want to buy some software.
Are you good for midi controllers? Synths? What kind of music do you make and what's lacking in your current setup?

Re: Want to buy some software.
Izotpoe Ozone does everything you have specified in one package and is generally highly rated. http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/ozone/
For good free limiter try tls maximiser http://hem.bredband.net/tbtaudio/archiv ... er_1-1.zip
Waves obviously do the L1, L2 and L3 limter / maximisers. If you go down that route, betabugs w1 limiter is apparently the same as Waves L1 limiter except free.
+1 for the Valhalla verbs.
http://www.2caudio.com/products do some nice verbs too.

Re: Want to buy some software.
I don't know if Ozone would be good on a track by track basis, seeing as how it's geared towards the master buss. It's more efficient to have all the features available individually. Alloy offers a similar feature set but tailored for mixing instead of mastering.
2CAudio does have nice verbs for certain applications. I've also had nice results with 112dB's Redline Reverb.

+1 for Valhalla, especially the Room reverb. But Shimmer is really freaking cool too. Haven't tried Vintage

It's fun if your trying to win the loudness war or kill your dynamics. Personally I stopped using it when I learned about compression and EQ.smalltock wrote:I heard the Fausage Sattner was pretty good.

Probably a good idea. What do you have for monitors at the moment?bassbum wrote:In the end I have decided to save it and wait until i can upgrade my monitors and sub. Not a totals wast of time though I leaned about the some cool toys.

Just some crapy M-Audio ones, they where like £100 for both.SunkLo wrote:Probably a good idea. The sub I'm using right now is from a crap £50 pc speaker set. To be fair to it it's not that bad for the money. It dose start to cut off at like 50hz though and 30hz sounds about half the volume it should.
Thinking about getting this.
