we are Impulse from Berlin and stage events in a Dubstep context every Thursday for almost 3 years. As of now we'll post all our Impulse episodes in this thread. We started the show in DEC 2012 so for you to get a little more familiar with us we'll include our archives and then continue with the upcoming shows.

Impulse is BLN.FM’s new Show with focus on dub­step and rela­ted bass music! Ori­gi­nally foun­ded as an artist collec­tive in 2010, the Impulse has sta­ged weekly dub­step ses­si­ons in Ber­lin every Thurs­day for more than 2 years. Aside a monthly pod­cast with guest mixes, now you can get your monthly share of bass with this show.

Every 3rd Tues­day of the month DJ Met (JopStepDivision/Gamma Audio), Deejay Saiman (Wobble/Hype) and INFRA (Dubmarine/F4TMusic/Shadowdub/Phantom Hertz) pre­sent you tracks from their cra­tes and pro­vide back­ground infor­ma­tion on labels and events. They also keep you updated with inter­views, exclu­sive tracks and guest mixes from artists from the dub­step scene world­wide. All facets of dub­step will be played as well 2 step, dub, reg­gae. In the pre­miere show the three hosts intro­duce them­sel­ves, each with a short mix. Among the tracks are exclu­sive pie­ces from Con­tent, ArpXp and other bass producers.

On Sep­tem­ber 10, Mala (Deep Meedi Musik) released his latest Album cal­led „Mala in Cuba”. The title alre­ady gives the hint, that this pro­ject aims to unite typi­cal Mala sounds with tra­di­tio­nal Cuban rhythms and styles. When Mala was in Ber­lin for his show at the Gret­chen club, we sat down with him and had a very com­pre­hen­sive inter­view. What the album sounds like, why he recor­ded it and what other musi­ci­ans par­ti­ci­pa­ted in this pro­ject can be lear­ned throug­hout this show. On top of that we fea­ture a bunch of exclu­sive tracks from Rob Sparx, Catesby, Léon P., INFRA, DJ Met and many more.

The year 2012 ended with a big boom and most of you pro­bably woke up with a head­a­che. To prevent that it’s going to pre­vail the whole year 2013 we send you some laid-back bass waves. This time Impulse focu­ses on some not that well-known artists from the Ber­lin under­ground scene who are capable to get more atten­tion in 2013 for sure. Among them are Ziplokk and Shu. While Ziplokk will soon release on Blue Red Media, Shu is in touch with the Cologne-based label Bass­liebe. In addi­tion expect a slice of trap and a short tra­vel report from our man INFRA. He recently tra­vel­led with 1Way to Slove­nia and pro­bably drove the people mad over there.

On April 4 we had the vinyl wun­der­kind dub­plate gene­ral Compa from Man­ches­ter as a guest at the Impulse party. After his debut appearance on „Get Dar­ker TV” in March 2011, Compa released his first 12″ sin­gle on Boka Records (‘Sen­tence’ / ‘Begin­ning’) and his high-acclaimed boot­leg of Mavado’s ‘Dem A Talk’. It had been sold out world­wide wit­hin one week of its release, so Compa and we were very sur­pri­sed that we could find a copy at Space­hall in Berlin-Kreuzberg. The price indi­ca­ted cle­arly that this record is a collector’s item. For „Impulse” radio show, Compa pre­pa­red a guest mix which comes along with a short inter­view about his fast rise, his atti­tude towards his music and his future plans. Whilst ope­ra­ting his own white label series on WX/WL, you can catch Compa also on Sub FM every Mon­day 12 pm-2 pm GMT. When tal­king about the Ita­lian party scene, most people imme­dia­tely think of Bun­ga­Bunga par­ties with easy girls and rather old gent­le­men. What remains mostly unknown is the fact, that Italy esta­blis­hed a very exqui­site scene for bass music. Arp Xp is one of the most active mem­bers of the ita­lian under­ground scene. He is based in Cagliari on Sar­di­nia and pro­ba­baly the most famous dub­step pioneer in Italy, toge­ther with the Florence-based Numa Crew. Besi­des nume­rous relea­ses on labels like NoMad, Cri­ti­cal, Essence of Dub, and Elas­tica, Arp Xp is a resi­dent at the SunAnd­Bass Fes­ti­val. In May 2012 he released his first full length album on IM:Ltd which was exten­si­vely played on dance­floors and radio sta­ti­ons all over Europe. The Name Goth-Trad will nowa­days ring a bell in each and every true Dub­step Head. He star­ted his car­rer actually in the late nine­ties and expe­ri­men­ted with Dub, Jungle and other elec­tro­nic sounds under the syn­onym Rebel Fami­lia which also had close con­nec­tions to Hip­Hop music. As the time pas­sed by and the Dub­step pheno­me­non ran lilke a wave over the planet, Deep Medi label boss Mala was attrac­ted by Goth-Trad‘s pro­duc­tions. Sub­se­quently Mala released the first Goth-Trad record in 2007 (Cut End / Flags). In addi­tion to his uni­que and well per­cei­ved pro­duc­tions, Goth-Trad runs a fre­quent event in Tokyo named Back 2 Chill which is intended to give upco­m­ing pro­du­cers and DJs an oppor­tu­nity to play their tunes in front of an „edu­ca­ted” audi­ence. When Goth-Trad came to Ber­lin to play his second gig at Impulse, we locked our­selves in the back­stage room of ://about blank, sat down with him and recor­ded a very nice and infor­ma­tive interview.

The July epi­sode of „Impulse” covers all about a cer­tain sum­mer wee­kend in Ber­lin. After hos­ting events occa­sio­nally last year, the open air loca­tion Kie­ke­busch close to the air­port Schö­ne­feld, sees par­ties almost each wee­kend this year. Among them the Hard­wax team brought the mighty „Kil­la­san Sound­sys­tem” alre­ady twice. On july, 20th to 21st there is time for the „Seren­du­bity” open air. As the pro­mo­ters explain: „The word seren­di­pity refers to a ran­dom encoun­ter with some­thing not sought for that turns out to be a new and sur­pri­sing expe­ri­ence. Rela­ting to dub, we hope for musi­cal and arti­sitc coin­ci­den­ces to take place that cause people to meet the fami­liar in an unfa­mi­liar way.” Lots of Ber­lin based dub­step pro­du­cers, djs and affi­lia­ted crea­tiv people par­ti­ci­pate in this pro­ject. The­re­fore we invi­ted the pro­mo­ters to the stu­dio to let them talk about this new wor­thy entry to Ber­lin fes­ti­val cul­ture. Emika is an excep­tio­nal per­son. The Czech born, Eng­land rai­sed now Ber­lin resi­dent pro­du­cer deli­vers great pro­duc­tions that com­bine her clas­si­cal back­ground and love for elec­tro­nic club music. Her per­for­man­ces are full of emo­ti­ons and reveal a deep love for bass fre­quen­cies. For Emika’s second album release on Ninja Tune we had the plea­sure to speak to her about music and find out more about her. Enjoy this exten­ded inter­view in which she unco­vers quite a lot of insights about her life and the way her new album took shape before it was released. Around and under­ne­ath the inter­view we mix tracks of dif­fe­rent tempo and also cater for the monthly dub­step expe­ri­ence. DJ Sai­man sat down toge­ther with Brain­theft for the 1-year anni­versary show of Impulse on BLN.FM. Toge­ther they’re shif­ting the focus of the monthly Dub­step show to dub. Deve­l­o­ped from the sounds of dub­step, dub & tri­p­hop, the crea­tive force of Brain­theft is con­struc­ting a wall of sound com­bi­ned with heavy bass lines, breaks, sam­ples and full live instru­men­ta­tion. Braintheft’s live sets range from down tempo dub/psychedelic to hea­vier, dar­ker styles of dubstep/d&b. There are no rules but Brain­theft break them any­way and their impres­sive live per­for­man­ces have made them a crowd favo­rite whe­re­ver they play. Exactly one year ago, we did a show about the Ber­lin dub­step scene. Of course, we played tunes of a lot Ber­lin based artis. Among them we intro­du­ced Ziplokk. His tunes were per­cei­ved pretty well by the pro­du­cer and pro­mo­ter Shu from Ber­lin. He got in touch with our guest and they teamed up to work on some future tracks. After one year we che­cked out what hap­pened to these two guys wit­hin the past year. Just to make you curious: nowa­days they get played by N-Type on Rinse.fm and their tunes were inclu­ded in sets of several head­li­ners of last year’s „Out­look Fes­ti­val”.
