Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Help!
Just gone to have a mix on my controller and the 2 main folders I used on my external drive are showing zero bytes. All other files and music files on the hard drive are OK.
Have I lost these or can I get them back? Really hope so as no back up!

Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
What files? Sounds like whilst they were transferring they've been corrupt. At least that's what it sounds like.
If so, no hope.

Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Yeah the only thing I've done exclusively with these two folders was transfer them all onto Rekordbox.
Flippin technology! I miss the vinyl days, none of this shit then!
Oh well, its only just over 6 months worth of tunes. Better start again and this time back ma shit up!

Yeah, that's technology I'm afraid. Though, ever scratched or snapped your favorite vinyl?
I had a painful reminder about hard drives a few months back... It's not 'if' they break it's 'when' they break.

Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Yeah to be fair its done me well. 5 or 6 years with no problems. Think it might be coz they don't like just being pulled out on macs, gotta eject them.
Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
For sure. I did the exact same thing and corrupted a couple logic files haha
Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Lost and gone forever, no response from Pioneer / Rekordbox forum.
Nevermind, learnt my lesson. Just need to buy a decent harddrive for back up!

Ouch. You don't seem too pissed about it which is good. I remember losing all my samples, music, docs, video, games, everything once. Was so angry at first but I just became philosophical about it and now back up in three places. I still wish I had some of my original projects though, had some crazy tracks in there

Try chkdsk. SOmetiems it's hapens sound recorder's memory cards, and the chkdsk mostly helps!
Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Try a recovery program like recover my files.
Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
Yeah, recovery programs could help. I've had bad experiences with them.
Also, I somehow managed to CMD+BACKSPACE my entire folder with every sample, song backup, software setting, synth patch I'd ever made then empty the trash on my Mac, deleting it permanently.
Luckily - I had a backup for 90% of it.
Shit happens, but lesson to take from it - don't deal with storage space and junk when you're extremely tired

You're going to have issues recovering from a external HD. You could try a deep scan using recuva : http://www.piriform.com/recuva/download.
Though I believe there is only a windows version available. Is there the option of use Previous Versions on the folder? If not, make sure you have that enabled for the next time around.
I recommend EVERYONE to learn how to make proper image back ups of their important folders and buy a DVD burner for their machine if they don't already have one. Plus with image back ups is you're dragging over one file - which is also on your machines HDD so if it corrupts during transfer, you can just retransfer it.
If you need a hand with doing this, I can help - if enough people are in the need to learn i'll create a thread. (I've worked in server security so understand the importance of making sure data isn't lost!)

Re: Music files showing zero bytes (deleted?)
The problem is the files have not been deleted, just the data from the file (as its there it just shows it as zero bytes)
I think this is going to be allot more difficult to recover. Plus its like 3 weeks ago now.
I'm not that gutted, I like to play new music so already building up the collection again.
Big love!
