Hide embeded videos

Post by zsuffa » Sun Jun 16, 2013 11:06 pm

Hi, in short im wondering if there is any plug or setting i can use so that embeded videos and soundcloudtunes only show as a link for me? I have a rather shitty computer, and all the embeded stuff in here make browsing the forum a real pain in the ass. I've tried google with little success, so a little help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

User Control Panel
Board Preferences

You can turn sigs and smileys off, can't see an option to turn embedded links off but most of them are in peoples sigs.

Turning off sigs is the easiest way yeah.

Which browser?
In Chrome, go to settings > show advanced > content settings> plugins >disable individual plugins
Mess with the options to disable stuff like Flash. Might also mess with the Javascript options.
If you click 'Manage exceptions' you can leave it enabled on every other site besides *dubstepforum.com/* or similar.
You can also try 'click to play. Never messed with this stuff though, but these are the options.

In Firefox: Options> Content mess with these. You can make certain custom exceptions, so flash or java will load on every site besides DSF.

Not sure about Opera or other similar ones, but they probably have them somewhere similar.

Each browser has a lot of addons/extensions. Can also try to look for one that was made to do this.

wow. I am in the exact opposite situation. I was thinking about making a thread for this because I am at a total loss for what to do, but I wasn't sure which forum to use. I have firefox, and I remember when I first downloaded it going through all the settings and picking one that made it so that all java scripts or something like that (basically all videos, including youtube, some images, advertisements, soundcloud, interactive features, and many other things) require me to click a little play button in order for it to display. I cannot remember where that setting is (I've tried to find it 1000 times), and I am now stuck with it. I've googled for hours but cannot find anything.

For instance in order for me to play soundcloud songs, a little transparent play button appears over the volume icon in the upper right corner that I must press in order for songs to play. The little banners in people's signatures do not work, I have to go to the actual site. I also cannot view the advertisements on this website (I only know about them because I sometimes use safari when there's something I cannot access at all, such as hbogo or showtimeanytime). It's really weird and I am totally sick of it but I like firefox otherwise so I keep using it as my default browser.

If anyone knows what the deal is, please tell me. Like I said, I also have safari and that doesn't have this problem, so I figure it's not a global issue with my computer.

Have you tried dragging things to new tabs to open them? Works on Chrome, not sure about FireFox
