Who remembers when it was called raggage? I think it was in DJ mag about 97?
Back when records were sold by the area. Couldn't get garage records outside of London for ages when the scene kicked off,

oh fair enough! sorry for doubting you mate

I have to say, I'd heard of the term "Raggage" to describe the Horsepower/early dubstep stuff with the ragga vocals or drum patterns or whatever. But never thought it was a term for garage generally, that seems mad.
Anyway, this documentary looks good.

The raggage tag was pre-speed garage if I remember. I worked in a shop in Birmingham. We had dj mag or it might have been jockey slut, which had a free cd with some sick "raggage" tune on it. Like Mickey Finn's bad ass but with, what's not the common garage beat, 4/4.
We didnt get offered a single tune from a distributor for at least 2 or 3 months after. With the first one we stocked being rip groove's double 99. Then a load of old hardcore bootlegs came through. The. The gaffer got the hump and stopped stocking the stuff as we started getting loads of rude boys coming in the shop.
D&b was he same, so was grime. Records sold by area / city. Wish it was still like that, we had much more innovation and better scene's IMO.
Edit: I'm pretty certain I'm talking late 1997 early 1998.
