wind tunnel / wind choir pad

Post by Coolschmid » Wed Jun 26, 2013 3:49 am

I have fallen in love with the shimmery pads that deadmau5 has used in a few songs.

These are the "wind tunnel" type pads that seem to have alot of white noise but also vocalish qualities.

You can hear it in this song from the very beginning. I know the initial sound is really layered, I'm looking at the topmost sound, the "ahhhh"

And in this song in the background from around 35 seconds in

I searched through the absynth and fm8 pad and sfx presets knowing that I would find something but I didn't. I have been messing around with pads that have subtle eq cuts to get the "ahhh" tone, but as you'd expect most of results are crappy. I will keep trying, but definately open to any pointers or patches in synths that I may have missed.

If you're looking through FM8 and absynth, you should definitely check out the "vocal" section presets (under the "instruments" category). That should have something you're looking for. Reverse engineer one of the ones you like to figure out how that "ahhh" sound is made.

Absynth has a much better vocal preset section than FM8. There's a bunch in there that have the "ahh" sound, specifically Breath Unfurled, Male Ahhs, Oort Cloud, Seven Suns, Sweet Girl, and Vox FM.
