best filter to use for growls?
if you are trying to make some sick ass roars what would be the best filter? LP, HP or BP? and would you prefer a flanger or a phaser?
Re: best filter to use for growls?
If your looking for the typical Skrillexy roar synth (eg. the one in kill everybody), then you can go wrong with a highpass with a pretty high resonance. Also massive's double notch filter fed into a lowpass works nicely.

i wouldn't use camelphat though, i think it sounds super digital, i would rather use just a simple filter, a free one like Crayon filter. Google it, it does the trick for me ( distance uses it in a tutorial ), just mess around with the filters and automate the cutoff, gives you some serious movement.

BP filters are nasty. You just have to EQ/compress it afterwards to get some thickness

Bandreject/Double notch in Massive is amazing. Shame you can't use Massive as an external effect

Massive is just fine, i do alot of reeses and growl stuff in there, you should try Albino too, sounds a bit less harch, i don't know what kinda grown sounds your talking about but when you'r going for the skrillex kinda shit sounding harch and digital is no problem at all i guesschemicallyinclined wrote:cool ill check that out. i really need to buy massive though... i tried the demo and i just about cameEpoxtacy wrote:i wouldn't use camelphat though, i think it sounds super digital, i would rather use just a simple filter, a free one like Crayon filter. in SynthmasterCM the bandstop filter is similar (since it lets you go crazy with the res)mromgwtf wrote:Bandreject/Double notch in Massive is amazing. Shame you can't use Massive as an external effect
theres an FX version that comes with the full Synthmaster so maybe you could look into it
just thought id suggest

also i agree with who said sherman filterbank, sounds like NI Driver but 100 times better & way more flexible.
Re: best filter to use for growls?
if you`re not gonna be scientific about your growl`s and want to get a growly type sounds as fast as you can then wow filter on vowels and bandreject gives decent results.
Re: best filter to use for growls?
I use a comb filter for most heavy sounds, gets results if you know what you're doing with it.

Re: best filter to use for growls?
ya anything that is midrange and sounds dirty im goin for. Massive + WOW filter will literally make me a whole new producer, cause as of now im stuck with the premium patches that came with my software. no vowel sounds, i can only make wubs and weak roars. and im not even trying to mess with shitty free vsts, id rather wait until i have the cash.Epoxtacy wrote:Massive is just fine, i do alot of reeses and growl stuff in there, you should try Albino too, sounds a bit less harch, i don't know what kinda grown sounds your talking about but when you'r going for the skrillex kinda shit sounding harch and digital is no problem at all i guesschemicallyinclined wrote:cool ill check that out. i really need to buy massive though... i tried the demo and i just about cameEpoxtacy wrote:i wouldn't use camelphat though, i think it sounds super digital, i would rather use just a simple filter, a free one like Crayon filter. There are so many things wrong with what you said right here.
I wish you luck because you will need it with your shitty mentality.

EQs. Boosting and cutting a particular frequency along with the movement of the sound is the best for growling.

but that's a lot of work isn't there a plugin I can pirate that will do all that for me?Genevieve wrote:EQs. Boosting and cutting a particular frequency along with the movement of the sound is the best for growling.
