Why do people hate Skrillex, but not Noisia?

I do not come here often and would like to think that people are generally off the unilateral hate for Skrillex bandwagon. But something I never understood was why he took so much hate from everybody. There were a lot of acts that took the same kind of hate, but to a lesser extent - guys like Excision, for example, who made the same FM Flatulence kind of drops, but was of course way less successful than Skrillex (and I assume that the hate:success ratio is generally balanced).

But what about Noisia? Obviously they are not a dubstep act, at least not as would be encompassed by any purist's definition. And it isn't like they're small potatoes so who cares ... Noisia is huge.

Are they one of those acts that are somehow inoffensive even though they get lumped (incorrectly) into the dubstep genre, and everybody likes them even though they don't really fit, a la Burial?

They aren't comparable. Skrillex sounds like a deranged attention seeking moron trying to get the loudest most vile sound he can from a synth, and Noisia are like exquisite engineers of sound.

That being said, they do have a few wank tracks. But it's pretty rare to see someone get that 'big' and not have some shameful tunes

Well ... they've got an upcoming collabo album with Foreign Beggars, and their remixes are clearly within at least the scope of "brostep" if that's a thing. I'm thinking of their work remixing Deadmau5, Skrillex, Katy Perry, whatever else. Though clearly I don't think anybody ever said they're exclusively dubstep.

Because they're respected for their old stuff. Lots of heads are let down with their recent shit 2, m8, but the old stuff makes up for it.

And Burial's style is pretty similar to dubstep circa 2003, accept done his own way.

as someone who came from jungle/dnb in the early 2000s i can honestly say i've disliked noisia for a long time. but dont get dislike confused with hate. i dont have an all consuming mouth foaming hatred of noisia or skrillex, i just dont like their music. if im at a dance and it comes on i just go outside and smoke a cigarette and life goes on
