Taking a Trip to London

Post by titchbit » Mon Jul 15, 2013 12:53 am

Definitely want to go to some good dubstep nights. I'll be going there some time in august, the specific days depending on if there are any good shows I really want to go to. Are there any good concerts going on? Haven't found much from searching google. Best thing seems to be Fabric nights. What other clubs/bars/events do you recommend? I'm not trying to see Nero or Doctor P if you know what I mean. Trying to see more like the Deep Medi crew, DMZ, Swamp, KAHN, etc. I'm sure you get the picture. Does FWD still have nights? I've never been to London or Europe at all for that matter, so forgive me, I'm rather clueless.

Any other suggestions are welcome - places to stay or eat, things to do, etc.

Also, I'll be 21, so drinking and getting into places shouldn't be a problem. But my sister who is 17 is going and she'll probably want to go to the bars/clubs/concerts too. How strict are the clubs and bars? I hear the drinking age is 16 to drink, 18 to purchase, so I doubt that will be a problem. But I've read most of the clubs and bars are 18+. Are any of them 17+ or 16+? How lax are they with fakes? If she gets a friend's ID that looks reasonably like her (same hair color and shit), will that be enough? Or does she need a legit fake ID with her picture?

FWD does regular nights still, best bet is to check their website closer to when you're going;

http://www.ilovefwd.com/

Fabric is good on a Friday, though the lineups can vary. Keep an eye on what's happening when you're over and you might get lucky;

http://www.fabriclondon.com/club/listings/fabriclive

Without knowing specific dates, it's difficult to know what might be on when you're over. Clubs to keep an eye on their listings inc.

Hidden (Vauxhall, occasionally good nights)
Fire (Vauxhall)
Plastic People (Shoreditch)

In addition to the ones above. Might also be worth keeping an eye on label websites/Facebook pages for one-off parties that might be happening when you're over.

Standard touristy stuff can be done if it's your first time there;

Oxford Street (shopping)
Trafalgar Square
London Bridge
Tower Bridge
London Eye
Tower Of London
etc

I recommend walking along the South Bank from the London eye, always stuff going on and plenty of cultural/historical stuff to look at.

They can be pretty shit hot. Legal age in UK is 18 for buying and consuming. London is quite tight, you can get ID'd if you look under 25 in most places, though the GF and I have been ID'd when we've been back this year, and we're 28 and 31 respectively. Not condoning the use of fake ID, though I doubt the average London barstaff knows what an foreign driving license looks like, for example.

https://www.facebook.com/events/1387729818112847/ You don't know about the line up until you get inside.

Just go anyway, System is easily the best dubstep night on the planet at the moment, no fucking contest! Previous guests included:
Youngsta
Commodo
Amit
Chef
Horsepower Productions
Kromestar
Jay5

The Dome is my favourite venue in London, absolute basics set up, a dark room with a monster soundsystem and a bar at the back, lax security and bare zoots being smoked on the dancefloor, they won't announce the lineup but you can bet it'll be something special

Okay I'm sold. Heard a lot of great stuff about System in the past. Will be going to London late August. Now just gotta get some tickets.....

However I'm not sure how much I dig this "you don't know who's playing until you get there" thing....
