Intro track a bad idea?

Post by BrainSick » Thu Jul 18, 2013 7:36 pm

So, I've been woring on a track that has "freak vocal" effects on audio which i created a song from. I wrote the words, which are spoken, and placed them accordingly into a track I made as I saw fit. It starts out with a melody that sounds dark and eery and bells are used for the synth which is the only thing playing at first. Basically the words are describing a heavy low frequency bass that takes over you when you hear it. Basically, it's how I came to love dubstep- THE BASS! It refers to it as "energy" through the words I wrote. There is a sub bass, pad and a variant of the first melody played using a slightly different synth than the bells that comes in with the audio. It ends with the vocals saying "This energy cannot be seen, it cannot be heard, it can only be felt bound to make you rage. It's in the atmosphere, and it's coming.... in 3... 2.... 1." When the 3 hits, a havy bass comes in and lasts after the 1, in time with the tune.

Basically, I thought about making this a complete tune and dropping it right there, but I thought, "Wouldn't it be cool to use this as an intro track for an EP?" Anybody have thoughts on having a single track dedicated to just an intro? I thought it would be cool to make a second track that kind of plays off of this one and transitions well and putting it 2nd on the EP. Never really seen/heard of people doing this but it seems creative!! Would it send a weird vibe? Or would people kinda dig it? I should be releasing it on soundcloud soon, depending on what conclusion I come to after hearing your opinions! :Q:

I make loads of intro tracks as do many other people, they're cool for using in mixes too.
I usually make intro's out of ideas that won'tfill out a full song, like recently I made this pretty "emotional" chord and arp sequence using strings/piano/filtered synths and then I layered in a speech from the Matrix - it's basically one big build for like 2:30mins and it was pretty impossible for me to make anything that followed so I decided to use it as a mix opener haha.

NICE!! Okay, I was hoping this was something others did. Not that I wouldn't do it if it wasn't. But didn't want to put something out there that nobody "gets". Although, people still might not totally "get" it unless they appreciate it. An average listener might be like, :corntard: "Durrr... That's not a song....?".

You could always just mark it in the title as an intro track if you're worried about people not realizing that it is.

I think it's pretty cool when albums have an intro and outro track, industrial artists seem to do it pretty often

I think it's awesome when the intro track leads straight into the first track.

the 1st 55 seconds of this is the Intro track on the album, couldn't find it online on its own and this is the tune normally

Bonobo did it nicely on Black Sands with Prelude and Kiara.

Serious nostalgia, I used to listen to Self vs Self errrrrday when I was into metal and that intro track is exactly the kind of jazz I like

This is one of my favourites
