Anyone used a Buttkicker? (force feedback

Post by spthde » Sun Jul 28, 2013 8:29 pm

I currently don't have a sub and I'm thinkin of getting one of these before I do cos the frequency response goes down to 5dB and up to 350dB max. I'm using Rokit KRK 5s and the bass response only goes down to 50dB and this seems perfect, my mates got one and it's incredible.

"Based on a patented design that is more musically accurate, more powerful and longer lasting than voice coil shakers and other tactile devices, ButtKicker brand low frequency audio transducers allow the user to feel powerful bass without excessive volume.

The magnetically suspended piston moves precisely in response to amplified audio signal input. This 3.25 lb mass generates tremendous force that is accurately transferred to whatever the housing is attached to.

ButtKicker brand transducers are virtually indestructible and maintenance-free, with many thousands of units in service for over six years... without failure. The ButtKicker brand family of low frequency transducers is used by the world's most demanding customers - IMAX, Disney, Universal Studios, professional and amateur musicians, theme parks and attractions, home theater professionals and enthusiasts, computer and console gamers and car audio installers."

I've also started uploading tracks on soundcloud if anyones interested in giving me some feedback :4:

I have no idea what this is but when I read the title I thought it said buttfucker, and was a troll thread.

I don't think it's good for mixing, since it doesn't actually move air to represent the sound, so you won't be hearing as directly as with a classical sub, i guess? Just a thought...

they make sense on stage when (as a drummer) you're using in-ear monitors and feel really detached from the energy on stage, in which case--they definitely enhance performance.

they're also definitely NOT any sort of accurate representation of what's happening, sonically. I wouldn't put one at the top of my list for monitoring, but hell, who knows-- maybe it'll be fun.

lol at the homer simpson toy

So it's a sub you sit on? That seems like an efficient way to be able to feel the bass without blasting it so much that it disturbs other people. I doubt it would have a flat response and be good for monitoring, but seems interesting. I have no experience with it though.

If you want feedback on your tunes, check out the Dub & Tunes for Feedback forum. There's also a WIP feedback thread for unfinished stuff.
