I know there's a thred for collaberating; I'm not asking if people want to collab with me here, just after some info on how it would work.

I use Cubase 5, with Massive, Sylenth, Albino, Vanguard and various other effect VST's.

How would it work if I were to collaborate with someone remotely? Obviously the samples I have on my computer, the person I'm collaborating with probably wont have them, so how would we both load up the project after each session and still have all the samples in the track?

Sorry if this is a bit vague; I'm not new to producing, but have never collaborated with anyone remotely, only in person!

If someone has the same DAW/software setup as you, you send the project file (with all settings/arrangement/etc) back and forth together with all the samples so they can see them on their computer.

If they are using a different DAW/setup, then you can always bounce out as stems what you've been working on for them to edit and arrange as required.

Basically whatever works for you and the other person.

I just thought it might be a good idea to pick up on some production methods from somone else. I've collaborated with friends 'in person' as such, but never remotely.

Is there no way that myself and someone else could run cubase simultaneously, and work together in realtime, remotely?

Collaboration projects are fun, but more fun if you and your buddy live close to each other.
About the remote, you can bounce out the stems or have the same DAW/VSTs as your friend (then send project back and forth).

No

remote collabing only works how people have already mentioned. If on the rare chance you both have the same VSTS you can send the project file back and forth. If not, you send eachother stems.

It can only really work in a ping pong style fashion where one of you are working on it at once. So it's much less of a creative, learning, bouncy collab, and more of a "wait wait wait - see what they've done - talk over aim/msn/skype about the track - work on it - send it back" When they don't send it back for ages, then come out with "ah I really couldn't get inspiration for anything" and send you back what you sent them with a vaguely different drum pattern... it can get a little testing.

Oh it's definitely worth doing - Iv'e done many, but it's hard to find:

a) someone who is actually willing to put on the time
b) is reliable and
c) works on/at the same level as you

Hence, getting all 3 is very rare.
