Hey DSF, I've recently been trying to figure out how to make this type of sound. It sounds very simple actually, i thought it was possible to synthesize with some comb filter work & automation on white / pink noise, but i just can't figure it out.
Here's two samples:
First is simply a hit from league of legends and second is a tiny stab in MakO's remix of kursa's rare candy (I asked him how he made the sound actually, but he just said it was some sort of stab reversed and timestretched, so that didn't really give me a hint)

Tried pink noise -> comb filter -> chorus -> comb -> chorus at various filter Q's and cutoffs but i can't figure it out.
SFX: Synthesizing this type of "arrow hit"?
Re: SFX: Synthesizing this type of "arrow hit"?
An arrow shoot and hit consists of well more then a single sound, which means if you're only using one sound generator you're probably not gonna get very close. If I were you I'd find a recorded arrow hit as reference, then analyse and pick apart the individual sounds (I'm guessing: bowstring vibration, arrow swoosh, impact thud and vibration of arrow after impact) and make separate instances with FM8 emulating each of these.

Thanks for answering. I know that, i probably should've been a bit more clear in my question, I'm actually only trying to recreate the "swoosh" that you mentioned for now. I'm still pretty sure it's whitenoise / pinknoise with with volume & filter automation on a comb filter but i just can't get the sound right. the example from that makO tune i posted doesn't have all these other elements, it contains only the swoosh that i'm trying to make.smile wrote:An arrow shoot and hit consists of well more then a single sound, which means if you're only using one sound generator you're probably not gonna get very close. Sounds like a sample with a highly resonant high pass filter is pass up then down the frequency range, perhaps volume automation and a little reverb to smooth it.
