Actual Tips/Ideas/Theories Thread
Re: Actual Tips/Ideas/Theories Thread
I've been a trance-head for all my life before I heard Drum & Bass in 06, I started producing for fun and I want to get all those ideas from my head that were trapped in it for years. I like FM8 because FM synthesis was a fairly easy thing to learn and most of the basses I get are 80-100% good. One thing I've been trying is finding out what massive wave-tables look like so I can create them and put them into Harmor (FL Studio user) so I can make a "Better" massive. Always learning about your VST is important because you can save time instead of watching hours of shit tutorials, that's how I found out Nexus 2 wasn't a synthesis but a Rompler, so I can only edit sounds in the library.
Re: Actual Tips/Ideas/Theories Thread
After changing you acapella try consolidating your clip (right click > consolidate) and then slicing it to midi. That might fix your problem.tturchi wrote:First thing I was wanting to know (ableton user btw), is why, whenever I warp an acapella sample's speed to increase how fast it plays (by decreasing the bpm) and then drag that sample to a drum rack so I can slice/dice it easier, the sample reverts back to the original speed? I have also done slice to midi track but that doesnt work either.
(And my tip for ableton users is to change your warp mode to Complex instead of Beats. Just in case you don't know, try it and you'll die, in a good way though).
I've used both. They are sooo different and do completely different forms of synthesis, so you can't really compare them, but I would choose Massive if I had to. Also Operator inside of ableton is a fucking monster (fm synthesis too). Play with it.tturchi wrote:Secondly, those who use massive and FM8. Which do you prefer?
Metal, hardcore, mathcore, Djent, Post Rock <3, indie rock. I love rap and hiphop (old school stuff, but the newer beats are fresh too).tturchi wrote:I also was curious to know what was yalls favorite genre of music was before anything electronic?
Agreed. The manual for Massive actually helped me get goodtturchi wrote:1) Be great at 1 or 2 vsts and not decent at 4 +
2)READ THE MANUAL for your vst

I can't stand presets anymore and am doing my best to teach people synthesis from the get-go. It's just a better thing to do with your time than looking for that "prefect preset".tturchi wrote:I can't tell you how many tutorials I used to watch and presets/patches I downloaded. I never could get the patch to sound good at all after modulation. After reading the manual, I finally understood how altering each knob effected the sound of the synth. Trust me this saves a lot of time and frustration.

I probably would get a lot of hate from the forum for some of my tutorials, but whatever. I like helping the newbies and anyone in general who wants to learn something I know a lot about.

When mixing down, play the track in reverse so you can focus on the sounds rather than being distracted by the tune/arrangement itself.
Re: Actual Tips/Ideas/Theories Thread
When mixing down, listen to the whole track at a very low volume and things that are slightly out of balance will become way more obvious than they were at high volume

Re: Actual Tips/Ideas/Theories Thread
Just open up a new sound, don't use any filters except the bypass, and then activate a single wavetable. also don't use any inserts, effects, LFOs, or anything else. then just record the waveform. I've done this before and put it in a sampler but it didn't work out too well, not because I didn't record it properly, but because the sampler sucks (IMO).LogiSpark wrote:One thing I've been trying is finding out what massive wave-tables look like so I can create them and put them into Harmor (FL Studio user) so I can make a "Better" massive.
@OP: regarding massive vs FM8. you can't really compare the two fairly. both are top notch synths at what they do. if i wanted a simple subtractive, I'd pick massive, and if I wanted an FM, I'd pick FM8. right now, if I could only choose one, it would probably be massive, because I am not that good at FM8 yet. but hopefully in the future I will prefer FM8.

You're obviously ghost producing for Kill the Noise. Hey can you make some dnb tutorials, even though you mainly make dubstep?metiri wrote:any artist to reference?R3b_Official wrote:

Some stuff you can clearly here in the artist like p0gman and cyberoptics. That bounce metallic bouncy wobble. Probably made with an evenlope and not lfos to get the right movement. Its literally in all of p0gman tunes and getter aswell.metiri wrote:any artist to reference?R3b_Official wrote:

Ive been posting on this thread and other about this kind of sound. It could tie into those big cinematic basses datsik and exsicion uses but all they do to put a format filter and tons of distortion to the sound.
Its just achieving that nice rounded wooden metal sound, ive come close to getting the right sound but doesnt "jump" or bounce nice.
Thanks Metri! Appreciate it if you could help man. Theres also barely any tuts on youtube so you could be the first
