It definitely sounds like FM, I've made similar sounds messing about with square waves in Sytrus

Any further help? haha

I've messed around with FM synthesis a bit before its so diverse and just trying to make one sound is so hard.

It is a nightmare to get the gist of FM, I reckon your best bet would be to do a lot of reading/watching tutorials and just experimenting, which synth do you use? If you have Sytrus I'll be able to help you out, but I have no idea with things like FM8
