Biosphere - Substrata (album - 1997)

Seriously - you should all check this out if you haven't already. I pulled it out of the collection recently and have really loved listening to it again.

It's labelled 'ambient' - but don't let that put you off. It is genuinely evocative and engaging and not just some some pretentious wankery.

If Burial provides the soundtrack to urban paranoia and decay, Biosphere does the same for expansive frozen wilderness. Check out this album.

loads of other interesting stuff on the Touch label, esp Chris Watson, recently did storm recordings with BJ Nielsen
