Not much is known about the mysterious Marquis Hawkes and that’s the way it shall remain. Having burst onto the scene in late 2012 with his ‘Cabrini Green EP’ for burgeoning Glasgow label Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, his rough and rugged techno and house productions have pricked the ears of DJs and underground music fiends alike. The EP sold out before it even hit the shelves and found itself firmly settled in the records boxes of Martyn, Pangaea, Tyree Cooper, Ben Sims and Jackmaster to name a few. His follow up for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams, ‘Higher Forces’ EP, also sold out on pre-order , solidifying his reputation as one of the most exciting producers to emerge in recent times while setting that elusive tone for the year ahead.
2013 has heralded remixes of Ohm’s classic ‘Tribal Tone’ for Unknown To The Unknown, Neville Watson for Creme Organisation, Rochelle Jordan for Jacques Greene’s Vase label with another wildly anticipated EP for Dixon Avenue Basement Jams. Not to mention heavily lauded DJ mixes for Fabric, Sonic Router, Tsugi Magazine, Juno Plus & Creme Organisation making sure his reputation as a DJ goes as far as his studio work.
As the man himself says…’Listen to the music – that’s all you need to know’
I'm excited for his release that's coming out on DVS1's new label, Mistress.
My favourite mix by him, so far, with loads of classics:

He has two releases on Dixon Avenue Basement Jams and just recently did a mix for them:

His Fabric mix is very nice as well:
