Martin Garrix

Post by nitz » Thu Aug 29, 2013 5:13 pm

Ok this is really not dubstep, but i guess some parts are, but this dude is only 17.

It's some dance/electro hype.

You can't hate on him can you? At 17 how was your production? Sure, he'll probably got some help, but still. Or can we hate?

Discuss.

He goes to a production school in Amsterdam. He gets plenty of help and has access to mastering engineers and some pretty expensive hardware too.

Not saying I don't enjoy his work, but you know, he kinda does have an advantage over other producers who are trying to get their name out there and stand out.

This is the school he goes to btw: http://www.hermanbroodacademie.nl/

I'm not seeing where his production is superior to other 17 year old prodigies. At 16, Madeon was already writing so much better written tracks than that.

Not saying i hate, just saying i'm not that impressed.

Catchy melody, when it was released it was fitting with the trend, that's it

I was more impressed by him saying he was ghost writing tunes for people at 14. He followed a pretty standard, tried and true formula, sampled a kick and chopped a loop for the drop. Not hating, I've got respect for the kid, but I'd take other youngsters like Madeon, Audien, Mat Fax, or a 16 yr old Skream/Benga any day of the week compared to this

Matt Fax, really? I was following him back when he was still called Mike Duz and his stuff was pretty bland back then. Now he's writing better melodies and all but the production doesn't really follow all that well imo...

Also he's an annoying little twat. Used to have him on facebook cause we started a collab once.

It's not like you learn to produce electronic music at HBA though.
There might be a course on recording/live audio though. The school is in Utrecht btw.

I never even heard of the guy and I know a lot of people who study there and I study audio in Amsterdam myself.
Guess I'm just that good at staying away from uninteresting music.

He isn't a child prodigy tho, i think he just has very good skills for a person of this age. Although, you wouldn't find his music on my laptop, this doesn't negate the fact of his skill level, and it's something i can appreciate.

There's a drum & bass producer named Memtrix who started a 15 but wasn't signed till 16. His mentor was Joe Ford thought, so he was 19 when he started mentoring him.

I'm extremely unimpressed. The mix down is so weak in this track compared to the professional standard, if I, or about 50% of the people on this forum, had the kind of training and equipment he has had we'd be so much farther than this.
