Synkro-style subby kicks?

Post by Ataxia » Fri Aug 30, 2013 2:22 am

I'm trying to synthesize kicks similar to those in the song "Guidance" by Synkro & Indigo.

I can tell it's a sine wave being pitch-modulated the way standard kicks are made. But with more decay, so you really get that "bongy" effect.

I've tried using Massive and Analog and pitch-mod-ing a sine wave down a few octaves and messing with the decay, which is as close as I can get.

But it still doesn't sound as clear or as fresh as these.

Do you think maybe he's using a sampler to sample the root note of his kick and then pitch modulating it within the sampler?

Any help, even if it's conjecture, would be amazing.

Cheers.

Same, All I hear is an 808 kick.

That bongy effect you're hearing, is it possible it's from the tom hits in there instead?

It's not the sidechain compression you're hearing?

Otherwise just grab a drum synth like Xoxos's Cleardrum and see if you can get there.

You're pretty much describing an 808 kick. If you're into samples there's lots of sample packs out there, I'd say maybe check the Goldbaby one out: http://www.goldbaby.co.nz/tape808.html. :W:

Tape 808s is amazing that. Also Vinyl Drum Machines. I pretty much rinse those packs in all my tunes.
