Anyone recommend a good pack?

Bfd had been mentioned, downloading as i speak. (vst)

Any other good packs?

the main program comes on 2 dvd's so if you are getting a bootleg copy, chances are you are going to be missing a few features...

like the drum sounds

I should think Angus over at FXpansion will be in tears by now. I mean, really. Why do people have such a bloody casual attitude towards piracy? Gets on me tits, it does.

I remember working double shifts in a sugar beet factory, six, sometimes seven days a week for over two years. I used to walk four miles there and back, through snow and rain because the bus was expensive (when it turned up at all) and my bike had been stolen by gypos. I saved like a bastard for my software.

If you can't afford software straight, save up for it.

I have never touched the stuff

I used to sell gear, I have always had hookups on NFR or discount software.

now I have a few plug-ins (just the ones I need) and hardware

I have many friends who have expansive databases of cracked software and it is no surprise that these are the same people who have all the ideas in the world, but are so overwhelmed by choice, they cant seem to finish a tune.

x200. I ended up selling a lot of my gear partly due to that reason alone. And partly due to software taking up less space.

considerling how very familiar with the FXpansion website I am, I can assume you arent getting it from there.

I am proud to say I dont have any unathorized dubs on my database, I am not a member of Kazaaa, bearshare, soulseek ir anywhere else that people download pirate tunes from.

I didnt judge you...

I expressed that it made me sad that people can download BFD.

and run a check on any of my names...

you will see I have been in this game for a very long time and have a multitude of releases and affiliations with companies like : Novation (which happens to be owned by the same people who own FXpansion)

I have many friends in the industry whose jobs are threatened by piracy of both music, as well as software, so you cant expect me to be anything but upfront and honest with you.

I'm not on a self righteous kick or anything man...

I have seen the industry transform itself from a handfull of producers who work their asses off to deliver tunes in real studios to an assload of bedroom producers with bootleg copies of reason.

I'll end with this...

I am a much better ally than I am an enemy. I think the best advice in this thread is where I told you to not mention downloading programs from the web.

To be fair I've pirated plenty of music and software in my time. But there came a day where I realised that I had some of the best VSTs in the world but still couldn't make a tune, like festa said. So I formatted, bought Battery and I was away. Last time I pirated something was Massive, which I ended up buying not even two weeks later.

Owning the software, knowing that it cost you money you worked hard to earn, commits you to it, forces you to learn it inside out. Every virtual knob in Massive cost me about a fiver. That's a packet of cigarettes or two pints I had to go without to get it, so you better believe I'm going to know what every knob does.

If you'd bought BFD, every drum sample might have cost you about a fiver (no idea what BFD costs), so maybe you wouldn't be so quick to replace them.

well for the sake of argument, they are usually extremely limited and you dont get a good feel for what they can do.

i have paid for software that i was previously using illegaly and could have continued using illegal... so there is some truth to it. i have also used illegal software that i ended up not liking, and stopped using, and didnt have to purchase it.

If you've got a soft-sampler then just load hits into there innit. Usually shitloads on the dvd with computer music, plenty of packs on DOA and other sample sites.

Totally agree with the commitment to buying and learning a piece of software inside out though - you should be able to figure out how to get most sounds out of a sampler with a bit of practise and it saves cpu drain with having loads of vst's open. Last few tunes I've done have all been done in Emulator X2

I do get the feeling that software could be cheaper though and that those that buy are often subsidising the loss for people that don't.
