Im hearing a clicking sound while sidechaining compression?
Im working on an electro track and im sidechaining multiple things to the kick. Im sidechaining everything separately so i can do everything more individually but im hearing a clicking sound. I dont know where exactly its coming from though. It sounds just like the click from a metronome but the metronome isnt on and for some reason im only getting this sound on every second beat (so it goes kick, kick and click, kick, kick, and then it repeats). Am i doing my sidechain compression wrong and is that whats causing this? and how could i go about getting rid of this because its very noticable (at least to me).

Probably the attack settings on the compressor. Are you compressing a snare or something that only falls on every second beat?

No im compressing the melodies but im sidechaining them to the kick which falls on every beat, not just every second beat. Nonetheless the attack settings would make sense. Its set to 0.0 but ive never had this problem before. Would you recommend making the attack a little longer?SunkLo wrote:Probably the attack settings on the compressor. I actually posted this but for some reason my post didn't registerSunkLo wrote:Probably the attack settings on the compressor. Are you compressing a snare or something that only falls on every second beat?

Try increasing the attack of the compressor. Either that or increasing the "knee".
I know the click you speak of and it can be very annoying. Simple fix though, just fiddle with the settings.

Just turn them off until you isolate the problem. Shouldn't be that tricky to figure out.

Just put a high order 100 hz low pass on it and problem fixed?topmo3 wrote:yeah its funny, always when i sidechain a sine sub there's this click at the start of a note (and end also perhaps?) i just deal with it, doesn't really stand out in the mix so who gare's

Re: Im hearing a clicking sound while sidechaining compressi
Sounds like your attack is too fast and is causing something similar to a discontinuity error. It will probably only be apparent on sustained sounds, especially if they have some bass content. Just slow the attack down until the click stops happening. You may also have some distortion happening if your release is set too quick, so make sure to listen to each side chained sound in isolation to fine tune your attack and release values.
Re: Im hearing a clicking sound while sidechaining compressi
Turn the lookahead up as high as it 'll go, and if that doesn't completely solve it, you're gonna have to turn the attack up a little i'm afraid.
Unfortunately, there's no real way around this without having to turn up the attack (and thus have a little overlap between the kick and whatever you're sidechaining to it). This is why for standard 4x4 stuff, i recommend using this:
http://www.xferrecords.com/products/lfo-tool
It has some sidechaining presets. I just automate the on/off switch on the plugin so i can tell it when to sidechain and when not to.
