Record Player
Hey folks.
Recently got a bunch of releases I think are kinda limited (Mssingno EP, Cult 002 etc) and am now looking to invest in a record player.
I am not interested in the DJ side or anything, just home use.
All I would like is relevant jacks for speakers, and if you could recommend any speakers too, that'd be appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Record Player
You should get one of those cheap USB turntable things so you can sample everything easy. Doesn't really matter the quality if your not going to be dj'ing. Just put a quality needle on it.

Re: Record Player
Seriously? Do you need to spend twice as much on a direct drive turntable when all you're going to be doing is listening to records on it? If he were an active dj, than it would make sence. He can save $100 by get something with a belt drive that will work just as well for what he wants it for. That's more cash in pocket for records (or beer).

Yeah, nothing wrong with that. If you got the cash, than go for it.
Re: Record Player
You should better look for an second handed Technics SL1200 MKII or an Project-Debut III. For speakers i recommended on a low budget the Monitor Audio BX2 and as amp the Marantz PM6004 (or 7004). And you gonna also need a sub, but my sub is an DIY, so i can't really give you a recommendation.
Re: Record Player
Why the fuck would you spend money on Technics if you have no intention of DJing vinyl and a bunch of otherbullshit? A 100-200 bucks should get you a turntable that'll be fine for home playback and sampling. Everyone that demands people buy Technics when all they want to do is play records at home is full of shit /thread
If you have a hifi system already, no need to spend bucks on a new system. If you don't, I'd recommend getting yourself a basic hifi system with a phono connector. You seriously don't need to spend 500-600 dollars on vinyl playback system. Just go to a music shop, check out some basic stuff in your price range, read some reviews online, and make your purchases.
Cords will probably be all RCA cords.
I use a 125 dollar Stanton belt drive TT with a Shure Whitelabel cartridge/needle and a 20 dollar phono amp. I've got shit setup so I can plug this into my mixer then monitors. More than suitable for listening and sampling.

Re: Record Player
I apologize, that was a bit harsh. But seriously, if you aren't DJing...it seems silly. If you are DJing vinyl I'd go Technics for sure.

Re: Record Player
Yeah, having a fairly cheap turntable by a company who can make turntables with a nice cartridge like that is a god option, but I'm not sure about having such a ridiculously cheap amp? I mean what the hell did you get for $20 that doesn't sound like arse unless it was a massive fluke of a deal?fragments wrote: I use a 125 dollar Stanton belt drive TT with a Shure Whitelabel cartridge/needle and a 20 dollar phono amp. Re: Record Player

Re: Record Player
I'd like to take this time to remind everyone that Technics is a brand and they made a lot of different models of turntables. Not just the 1200/1210 line. I used to have some decent second hand Technics turntables that I got for 20 to 50 bucks. I actually started DJ'ing on those until I could afford some 1200's. One was a direct drive and one was a belt drive. Anyways, Technics have some other models of solid turntables that are most likely better than those USB ones.fragments wrote: If you are DJing vinyl I'd go Technics for sure.
Re: Record Player
A very good point. Though I kinda fall into that trap where I assume people know Im talking about 1200s if I say Technics on a dance music forum.mks wrote:I'd like to take this time to remind everyone that Technics is a brand and they made a lot of different models of turntables. You also dont even need a DJ turntable really...I just new more about those than consumer/audiophile ones so I bought based on the knowledge I had.

Re: Record Player
Guess I should have been more clear, I have 2 of those numark UBS deals. Thing works fine for what I use it for and at about $125 each there not a bad deal at all IMO. Certainly better than the American DJ shit I learned on. And fwiw, I used to have a pair of 1200's so I know what a good table feels like.wolf89 wrote:Those cheap USB turntables are fucking awfulCrimsonghost wrote:You should get one of those cheap USB turntable things so you can sample everything easy.
