The Lazy Drop

Post by re6ter » Wed Dec 11, 2013 12:00 am

When the drop arrives there is a brief pause of some expected sounds (like a kickdrum) then resumed after a brief amount of time for emphasis. I find pausing the kick, cymbal and sub at 0.55 then resuming them at the first snare hit is sometimes a sweet spot.

What do you think?

What about doing a real lazy drop and just don't drop it at all. Just loop the buildup for 36 more bars and go back to the intro.

I generally leave the first kick out in certain areas in a track, but not normally on the drop. Sometimes I do, and it's all good.

I call this a ghost kick because you expect a kick to be there in your mind but it never shows up. :)

I'd be careful with that terminology, ghost hits commonly refers to something else.

ya I would associate 'ghost kick' with a kick that u cant hear but used for sidechaining.

^ nope. A ghost hit is a usually used before something like a kick or snare to lead in and provide swing, v common in styles that revolve around swung drums like garage and house

Ghost hits are just quiet hits that don't really impact, but really help move the beat.

A silent kick track used for side chaining is usually called a trigger track.

Ghost hits are also when you inhale through your nose, drawing from the reservoir of smoke in your mouth. Or alternately when you inhale a milk shot and hold it until you only exhale thin nearly-invisible vapor.

It is also when you are walking down the street, and a maroon Monte Carlo slows down next to you and a dude with a bandana leans out the window with two mac 10's and blazes at you. You jump for cover behind a parked car, but then you realize you just hear ordinary traffic noise. Looking up, no one is there.

and as far as I know, setting the listener up for something expected and then not delivering on that expectation (tastefully of course), is called a 'stunt'...

Or you could have the track instantly drop the second it starts then just add shit and switch bits up.

unless the bit at 1:27 is the drop. I don't know.
