Anyone producing "modern rnb"?
anyone here inspired and influenced by the bassy, atmospheric contemporary rnb that has been around for a couple of years? i can definitely hear uk influences in stuff like zodiac and other guys who've produced for the weeknd. also banks has a track produced by jamie woon and lil silva. i've enjoyed listening to this stuff for years now but haven't tried producing it yet because i've regarded the style too challenging to produce. i'd love to hear your tracks and any tips you may have for producing this style!

Re: Anyone producing "modern rnb"?
I fukken hate r&b lyrics but looking past that a lot of those examples are really well produced and great music. some of it is very FlyLo . The production is very different to "our" production. As in, these guys have actually mic'd up kits and keys and recorded from the start, rather than use samples and VST's like what we would do - the composition was probably done by the songwriter also - but then again these are "professional" tracks designed for the radio etc. not some guy in a bedroom making bangers for his set on the weekend. I reckon you could easily do something similar if you got your sample hunt on,
Re: Anyone producing "modern rnb"?
love the examples you posted, especially FKA twigs
and the Rosie Lowe song.
the production by Arca on FKA Twigs' latest ep is insanely good
i want to produce stuff along the lines of this, im not anywhere near good enough though... it's really hard. it's so polished, and does seem to be made for the radio. i always get the impression there's teams of people working on the songs. plus im new to production
any tips on this style would be greatly appreciated

Although I don't know much about rnb production, I do know that The Weeknd is THE SHIT!

u mean late nights?? love that tape. 773 love at least is made by mike will made it (no shit) who's an established pop producer. but this so much
and yeah i think at times there's real kits and real instruments but afaik jeremy rose (produced some bits for the weeknd) is just a really creative dude who at least used to work with a a laptop and a midi keyboard in his bedroom. i have no idea how illangelo gets his sound though, sooo dope and melodic.
