Where do FL backup files go?

Post by High_Plains_Drifter » Wed Apr 16, 2014 10:34 am

So I've been working on a tune for a while and was very happy with it, there were a few slight changes needing made so I thought I'd give it a break and work on something else for a bit. Because the project had corrupted before I'd restored it from an earlier backup named "...(autosaved at 19h32m)". Because I'd just carried on working from that it had been saving in FL's backup folder (which I've just realised now) and that only stores so many files. So after I'd spent a few hours on other projects I was ready to get back into it and it's nowhere to be seen. It has slid down the list of the backup folder and into oblivion..

I'm devastated, really. Has anyone had the same problem? Does anyone know where these files go? Is it possible to ressurect them? I thought I was being safe by saving it as often as possible but obviously this is irrelevant if it's in a temporary folder..

Asking here as FL seem to want to make it as hard as possible to contact a human being for help.

:( I guess I'll just have to roll with it. Always tough losing a project though

@wub would this not save a new version in the same location though?
I always Ctrl+S. Wish there was a shortcut to save a new version but in a totally seperate folder. Ideally on my external drive!

You should really be specifying a project folder for each project, and doing "save new version" (Ctrl + N) regularly. That way if any working version of the file corrupts, you have another recent version, and each project lives in its own folder so you don't have to worry about the limitations of FL's backup folder.

I also back up projects that I've worked on during any day to an external drive at the end of the day-- that way they're in at least two locations, no matter what (in addition to whatever total hard drive backups I have). Having lost enough files and computers to corruptions, crash, etc, it seems like the safest way to go.

And I save all my projects into fl's default folder, I think it is called projects. I've had recourse to backups, and they've always been where they are supposed to be. I'm pretty good at saving except when I get excited, which is when I crash fl with my intensity.
