Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
So my club got money for Stanton's and I'm thinking it may be time to start buying myself some vinyls. After graduating they wouldn't really be of any use to me, unless I were to buy my own turntables of course, so I may sell all the vinyl in like 2 years. Do you think this would make for a worthwhile expenditure? I see so many ridiculous prices on discogs, but do most records actually sell at good enough prices to actually make your money back and/or make a profit a few years down the road?
I'm thinking I should only go for new releases, cause old records that I would love to spin like DMZ007 or MEDI003 are probably expensive as fuck. So if I budget myself like $100 to get a small vinyl library going, that way I would get the most tunes for my money. The average new record is like 8 GBP from what I've seen. That's like $12. Shipping is probably like $8 so that's approximately an even $20 per record. But correct me if you think any of that is wrong.
If I start soon that would probably be:
Ishan Sound - Namkha / NN Special / Kahn remix
Thelem - Haunted Harmonics EP
Truth - 30,000 ft. EP
Biome - Cromos EP
Do you think the value/price of records like these would appreciate in 2 years or depreciate?
Any other recommendations b2b advice b2b predictions that I will go broke from a vinyl buying addiction??????

From what ive seen in my collection, generally its vinyl only releases that are worth anything on discogs, id just keep that in mind
If its on digital, i wouldnt bother with the vinyl (unless its colored or some dumb shit)

LOL at the idea of MAKING MONEY FROM BUYING VINYL
whats the point of it if you are only purchasing things you think are gonna turn of profit.
sounds like a skint thing to do and overlooks the fact music is for listening to
i reckon all those records you mention will be worth less than zero in a few years time.

Also, Rayman, a lot of people buy records for memorabilia. I do that. I don't think I'll ever DJ and if I do, I certainly wouldn't be carting my vinyl collection around tbh.
Can't say much about the records in OP because I'm not very onto any of those names, but good luck nonetheless.

lol cloaked_up, i know you're trolling but did you even read the OP? i can't believe cloaked_up is going all "true head with principles" on us. i'm wondering about making my money back, cause the vinyls wouldn't be worth much to me after a few years. profit is just a bonus. just wondering if any ninjas ever turn a profit, not that it's my objective.
please don't turn this into a "buy vinyl for the love of the music" soapbox ppl... everyone's already heard that before and profit isn't the intention of the thread.

The classic Deep Medi/Tempa bits like Midnight Request Line etc can go for quite a bit thorayman612 wrote:From what ive seen in my collection, generally its vinyl only releases that are worth anything on discogs, id just keep that in mind

Also some people just wanna DJ with vinyl so they're gonna want certain tunes regardless of wether they're on digital or not.

what i should have said is that i dint belive you to be a true head
tru headz buy vinyl for the music - not to sell in 2 years time.
its true what mala said
there arent many tru headz amongst the young of today, its all mp3s, mephedrone and making a quick buck

Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
i like doing this too, i've only put in my dubstep and grime and haven't even been buying that long but that figure fills me with shame and pridePhigure wrote:sometimes i open my discogs collection page and get a stiffie just from thinking about how my records have appreciated in value

dubunked if you dj with cdjs already and you don't seem to have any reason for djing vinyl beyond that you now could what's the point it sounds like it's gonna cost you a ton of money for something you don't give a fuck about, i feel if you live outta the uk most dubstep is gonna be prohibitively expensive
i feel if you're already thinking about selling them on then there's really no point getting them in the first place
that being said if you really want to, i've only been buying dubstep for around a year and yeah it is kinda impossible to get some shit like early medis and dmzs unless you are a dickhead with no sense of money, but i've still been able to get new copies of changes, request line, skream!, return 2 space for cheap as well as all the new releases, and some shit like earth a run red i had to splash out on

Re: Do any ninjas make decent money buying/selling vinyls?
My collection is supposedly worth a median of about £7500. I've been buying for about 6 years now, and I've probably spent about that much/maybe a bit less. Seems like 1 in 10 plates goes up in value, but a lot go down/stay about the same.
Not something I'd bank on making money on.

Yeah exactly man, longest thing ever. I said no more selling on discogs when I found myself going to the post office to post a 50p record to some guy in japancloaked_up wrote:g u could get a second hand rolex with that sort of collectiongarethom wrote:My collection is supposedly worth a median of about £7500. I like having the collection tbf, and if things ever go tits up, I know I've got something I could sell for a few grand.
