Metal spikes many believe have been installed to deter homeless people from sleeping in an alcove outside a block of flats in London have sparked outrage on Twitter, after pictures of the building went viral.
Andrew Horton, 33, of Woking, Surrey, took a picture of the studs outside of the block of privately-owned flats on Southwark Bridge Road in the borough of Southwark as he walked to work on Wednesday.
Mr Horton told The Telegraph he believed the studs have been put in place to prevent homeless people from sleeping there.
"I can't say for certain but it certainly looked like they were placed there to deter homeless people. It's dreadful.”
The picture has been circulating rapidly across social media, with many expressing their disgust and outrage at the studs.
User @CraigMcVegas described them as "barbarism", adding: "A society should be judged on how it treats its most vulnerable." David Wells compared them to spikes used to prevent pigeons from resting on buildings, tweeting: "the destitute now considered vermin".

There's been a huge outcry about this on facebook.
As you can probably imagine i don't see the issue, if it is privately owned land these are put on then what is the problem? It's not like tramps are usually allowed to sleep where these spikes are, if anything it will save the police time from moving people on.

you've never gone home pissed, if you fall on them it's going to hurt more than if they weren't there

I wonder how many people complaining would GENUINELY not mind having a homeless person next to their front door every day.
Edit: in fact it would only be fair if every person against this creates some shelter next to their frontdoor and invites homeless people to live there.

Tbh, I don't see the real issue here. Highly doubt any of the moaners would go to the lengths of inviting them in for a night or two, so it just seems like empty slacktivism to me.

It's not really that dickish though is it. If someone put that up in front of their house, you'd be a bit of a dick to tell them to take them off. No more rude than a lock on your door imo.

All the money spent on these spikes could have been put towards shelters. Thats the real issue imo
Nm just saw this is private property...idk what to say then. My old neighborhood used to have a real problem with the homeless stealing shit. I guess these spikes may help that issue as well

Same could be said of any drugs you consume routinely tbh. Why don't you sell all the stuff you own but don't really use and put it to that purpose?

This is in a way similar to the subway halal controversy.
People's argument then was 'hey they are a private company let them do what they want' yet the same people who were saying that then now seem to be saying how outrageous this is.

I think it's peculiar, I wouldn't have done it myself, but if someone doesn't want something on their property they shouldn't have to keep it there. It's a consequence of accepting capitalism tbh.

If you don't have a problem with this then I have a problem with you. Who cares if its private property, its easy to say that when you have a fucking roof over your head.
There are enough empty homes in Europe to house the entire homeless population twice over.
Then you get cruel stnuc doing barbaric shit like this, and now sleeping rough is even rougher.
Like kidshuffle said spend the money on creating shelter and the problem wouldn't exist in the first place.
