Is Trash 2 worth the money?

Post by 9white5 » Wed Jul 02, 2014 7:34 am

Hey guys, i already own fabfilter saturn and i love using it to mildly distort sounds, but it seems quite tame and not so ideal for making those crazy wall-of-sound drop basses.
I've been looking at trash 2 and ohmicide, i'm not really sure about ohmicides interface though, it seems pretty awkward.. Is trash 2 worth the 250 bucks? Seems very expensive for a distortion plug in, and i dont want to feel as though i've wasted my money when i could have bought zebra 2 instead

Thanks!

If you want distortion go Guitar rig.
You can run your sound through any multitude of cabinets and modules.
Distort it as your heart desires.

I can't understand people actually buying plugins... are you a professional or just a hobbyist?

Lots of people spend money on hobbies! But I agree ...lots of great freeware out there!

I have ohmicide and camelphat 3. I never use ohmicide though cause I really dont like the gui and the layout. Camelphat 3 is excellent.

Eh, unless you're in it for the filters as well, just downloading camelcrusher, and buying Kombinat DVA (http://www.audiodamage.com/effects/prod ... ?pid=AD030) would get you a lot farther in the distortion department, and for considerably less $. I personally use it, as well as Ohmicide, if money is an issue, DVA isn't a bad choice!

Some people buy plugins purely because if they didn't, there is no incentive for developers and companies to come up with new and innovative ways of processing audio to give new and innovative edges to music and sound design.

If somebody like you ran the country we'd be down the pan in a year!

I went to the Meltdown festival at South Bank the other week and they didn't have a section where people check your tickets so some were just wandering in. A lady came up to me raging mad

Enraged lady: "You should DEMAND a refund seeing as other people are getting in for free!!"

Me: "Hey, enraged lady, it was only £4 and I don't mind spending that each year to know that I am doing my part to make sure that it returns"

What I meant is if you're just a small hobbyist who isn't making any money out of his tracks, why should you pay for your plugins? BUT, if you're a professional who actually makes money with his tracks, then you should buy your plugins.

Or go Lepou/tse/Ignite for a freeware alternative.

So he should pirate his shit? Or is spending money on a hobby not worth it to you? I ride a $4000 road bike, but I'm never going to win a grand tour. Am I wasting money? Maybe I'll just do nothing and get fat again.

I spend money on plugins because i enjoy making music and ive gone past the stage where free ware gives me the options i want. (Im on a mac too, theres so much freeware that can only be used by Windows users :( Not to mention that im using 64 bit)

Theres nothing i'd rather spend my money on, Im a creative person and i get more enjoyment out of music equipment than i would from a new car or tv. Thank you for your concern though :)

I wasn't talking about freeware. I was talking about piracy.

I can't believe you are stupid enough not to realize that image was meant as a joke, i.e. that software piracy is not piracy because piracy is done by "arrrrrr matey" types, I'm sorry you needed something that simple broken down for you like that in front of everybody watching, but still, *really*?

So we are now refuting the existence of intellectual property? Fucking serious?

You know what, I am not even having this argument. Ill just keep paying for my software (which includes functioning products and customer support). Keep being a tnuc if you want dude...

I dunno what kind of crazy entitlement attitude that even is...

There's no point in having a temper tantrum and calling people names. Some people just have a different opinion to you. Piracy is definitely not the same as theft, it even had a different name.

There's also pros and cons to piracy. The pros are that it's free marketing - you get to really try the software, recommend it to people etc. I wouldn't have bought half the synths I use today if I hadn't pirated them first.

The cons are lost sales, but the amount is debatable. It's certainly nothing near what the anti piracy crowd would have you believe. People download movies, music, software that they'd never have bought.

Personally I believe that if you use a piece of software a lot and love it, you should support the people who made it. But there's nothing wrong with an extended trial.
