I produce music myself and I can tell that overall the amount of time spent on the song is much more then this 2014 crap people call Dubstep. As an example I will show you how one of my favorite artists went from producing bone chilling, dirty and dark tracks of EPICNESS to producing a bunch of high pitched sounds and loud noises made for the clubs. His name is Excision. Now some of you might be familiar with him but probably aren't familiar with the old Excision, one of my favorite Dubstep artists. I will focus mainly on him today as an example. I will show these examples and demonstrate how his style over the years has gone from completely brillant to absolute garbage (and you will agree with me once you hear it).

Now this song is very old, in fact it's from 2005, and to be honest, this wasn't Excision's prime. I am not sure when he first started making music but it shows in this song that he was pretty amateur, (Although this is still better then what he produces now)

Let's fast forward two years where Excision produced this track, No Escape. Now ignoring the really out of place Vocal samples he used from Samurai Jack, the track still contains that dark vibe that I love about Excision. Heavy drum patterns with very ambient synths and sound effects implemented into the track. Also I can't get over that delay/echo effect he used on his snare, it's really f**king cool! I still wouldn't call this his best track but it is a nice one to listen to from time to time.

Now this song is one of my favorite songs by him, very chilled out compared to some of his other stuff but it is well produced and has an epic drum pattern that fits perfectly with the bass and mystifying lead. A truely brillant work of art when I first heard this song I looked like

Now here is an old collab between the legends Excision and Datsik, back in the ol' glory days. Now I am not a huge fan of the drop of this song but the intro alone sets such a perfect mood that I love this song. The mood is so perfect it kinda makes me feel like I am inside a dark cave with nothing but a flash light surrounded by monsters. Now Skism did a remix on this song where he drastically improved the drop, but totally missed the point of the song. What makes the song special is not the drop but the tone that the song sets throughout the track.
Listen to this remix and see how the song loses its creepy vibe the original did so well.
As you can see Skism completely missed the point that made the song so well, by changing the intro so much it lost a lot of it's personality.

We are going further in time now but it seems Excision still gets it. This song is an example of an amazing intro as well. Again not a huge fan of the drop, (actually this song lacks a drop and instead introduces a guitar rift), but everything before then was amazing. The vibe set is amazing and the drums are freakin' sick! Another epic song by Excision.
After that Excision started to lose his magic touch. He created songs more snyth heavy with hardly any variation in drum patterns and a overall lack of diversity. Really his biggest crime is just creating a track that doesn't really stand out from the crowd. You can tell he still tried to maintain his iconic dark sound but fails to do so. Listen to it and see how it isn't quite the same as his other tracks.

Now we have covered some of his good tracks lets get into his modern tracks, prepare your ears.

OH MY GOD! That is the same guy? wtf happened!?

Sorry I kind of lost it there I just can't get those horrible high pitched sounds out of my head

Now I know I have spoken a lot about Excision I was just using him as an example. Sadly a lot of artists that used to produce dark Dubstep have ceased to do so and have also turned to making crap like this. Datsik is another example of a guy who followed the trend of trap and club music.
It really frustrates me to see good Dubstep die, and I wish Dark Dubstep made a comeback. The music I produce is inspired by the old Excision, and I pray he will come back some day.

If anyone knows of any artist who still make Dark Dubstep like the old days of Excision or Datsik please tell me, as artists who still do are far and few between and I refuse to listen to modern dubstep or that trap crap.
Thanks you for reading, I would love to read your opinions in the comments, and remember that my taste in music is an opinion in it's own and was in no way trying to offend people who like modern Dubstep. Also if you would like to hear one of my darker tracks inspired by Excision and Datsik I will post a few to for you guys to see. I just started making music 6 months ago once I got a program called Reason for my birthday, I just started making Dubstep six months ago and am learning through Youtube tutorials, (which is sometimes a pain in the ass), and since then I have made a lot of progress and would love any feedback given.
