Large sample library - does it cause crashing in Ableton?
Using Live 9 suite on WIndows 8 (Bruh, i know. Shit isn't it)
Starting to crash alot. I have about half of my memory filled up on my HDD so that's obviously a player, but i also have I'd say 100GB of samples, placed on my desktop. Does this cause it to be slow/crash?
thanks for any help because it's really freakin' annoying

I installed StartIsBack and find that Windows 8 is pretty good now. It's just a slightly improved Windows 7 once you get rid of that awful Metro mess.JamesHanvey wrote:Using Live 9 suite on WIndows 8 (Bruh, i know. Shit isn't it)
When you say it's crashing, what happens exactly? Do you get an error message?JamesHanvey wrote:Starting to crash alot. Size alone shouldn't cause crashing, although it could slow down if you're using your system drive for everything. What's the size of the drive, and how much free space do you have?
It could also be a hardware issue, I'd start by checking the HDD. Download HD Tune trial, and check the health tab. If it all says ok, you're good. But if there's one or two warnings, it's time to back up and get a new HDD.
You could also try the System File Checker on Windows, just to make sure your installation is ok: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
That'll do for now as it could be anything, but this is where I'd start.

Every time I've had instability with Ableton it was always due to a dodgy plugin. Never had issues with large sample libraries at all.

Simply crashes when opening and closing projects, stops responding all that jazz. Usually the projects have a crap tonne of plug-ins on. My HDD has less than 500 GB left, it's also pretty slow from what i can remember. So not alot atall. I have alot of plug ins too, most of them i don't use so i need to sort through them. It's not really any surprise it crashes alot. I haven't optimised my computer for music making, and there's a tonne of load on the CPU. However, it does crash when there's less than 40% (on the cpu) which is frustrating.

If its crashing on loading a project file, its almost certainly a plugin that you've used in the project file.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Although doesn't Ableton usually disable bad plugins when they cause it to crash?cyclopian wrote:If its crashing on loading a project file, its almost certainly a plugin that you've used in the project file.
OP you might be better off contacting Ableton support for this problem. Or try finding out which VST you're having issues with.
