in regards to the box of dub...

test presses and promos of vinyl are sold, why is it so taboo when a cd promo gets sold? how is everyone so sure it's not soul jazz selling the cd?

i might just be completely clueless, if so, someone fill me in.

Southern, with regards to Box of Dub, it's not Soul Jazz selling it. And anyone involved with it's right to be hacked off with the wasteman selling a priviledged copy on e-bay.

These promos are given (not sold) to a small group of radio DJs and journalists.

And yes, they sell the vinyl promos and test presses, but in or from their shop or through their own distributors. Totally different.

Brilliant idea
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?

or is he what we're fighting against? :P
but seriously music piracy isnt good but it doesnt really look like what this is? surely isnt a crime to sell promos that you've been sent on ebay, just very rude

i know of at least 2 products in development which could spell the end of downloading music via p2p as we know it.

whats the more upsetting part: not getting deserved money for your efforts (producers, label, distro etc) or the lack of ethics? i think there will always be people without ethics in any scene (music, religion, political, or otherwise) and this cannot be escaped, only try to fight back against every individual that pops up. and not getting deserved money, i guess you gotta start thinking of new ways to make money back (think US punk bands & current US rap artists).

my 2 cents would be that at some level you gotta accept piracy and maybe cats should be selling merchendise at shows to make the money to invest in the next pressing (and i'm not just talking plain text on the front tshirts). I remember going to punk shows back in the day and them have a large merchandise area with tshirts from all sorts of bands, records/tapes/cds for sale, stickers to give away, posters, fanzines, etc. I realize the scene isnt so big, but why don't people sell records or cds at shows even, or get some cheap mixes just as promotion. Maybe people are in places outside of holland and this already happening, if so enlighten me. I know there's a dubstep party in Pittsburgh with AbZ, and sapphic_beats is bringing vinyl to sell, which is great for a town like Pgh where people probably can't pick up every release at the local record shop. what to other people think about merchandise being sold at shows?

Whilst I totally agree with your sentiments on this thread, particularly with CD releases, I must confess to having bought plenty of promo vinyls in the various record exchanges in Notting Hill and Soho....They stock tons of them. I doubt I'm the only one here.

Seckle - I hope that doesn't cause a problem in light of your post above.
Bye. I've changed my password and left the boards...Too much time on here and not enough work being done.

i was referring to our P2P policy about revealing site and release details. info about legitimate copies at stores is always allowed.

cheers.
