negativity on the forum

Post by night deposit » Mon Apr 17, 2006 8:41 am

hello all,
just thought i would comment on the negativity i've noticed on here lately.
i wasnt on here so much for a few weeks and the one thing i've noticed since my attention has come back to this forum is that there seems to be more and more attitude in some of the threads and a real lack of respect for other peoples opinions, etc.
one of the things that has bolstered my affinity for this music is the positive vibe that seems to be associated with those that make and enjoy this music known as dubstep.
i have never really been part of a scene per say, but i care deeply about music and it is part of the foundation of my continued existence on this planet..
i love the fact that it seems as if dubstep is attracting all different types of people, from different age ranges, beliefs, countries and backgrounds. it seems almost revolutionary to me that a lot of the connections in this are being made on the web.
while i'm all for the democratic and open format in conjunction with this forum i will say that i think that some people need to check themselves or go elsewhere. i come here for the information that this forum contains, the discourse about the music and culture, releases, mixes, events and some of the nerdy and amusing banter and posts (sometimes off topic) that surround it.
what we dont need here is people bringing outside 'beef' from other forums, character assasinations of other members, hostile commentary and all around bad vibes. i for one am amazed at the general enthusiasm and community that we have here and would like to see that respected more. i joined this forum a few months ago, a first for me as i have never been a member of any forum(except hyperreal- rip), and never 'introduced' myself, but feel a part of this experience and community here...
i just wanted to put this out there, thanks for listening and big up all the positive people here, you know who you are... :w:

It'd be all love if some of the newer members didn't write such ill-thought out fraff which riles up some of the other members - especially recently. eg 'the forum decides what is and isn't dubstep', or 'should be brought out on vinyl or get the fuck out', I mean come on man! That ain't showing love that's showing disrespect and ignorance.

And if nobody stood up to that it would continue and get worse. And the dustmen would strike again, and nurses would walk out, the ice caps would melt, seas would rise, coastal areas would flood, foot and mouth would re-emerge, cattle would be burned, horses would bolt, skies would darken, sperm counts would drop, pensions would dry up, stock markets would crash, I mean there's a lot at stake here!

yeah true this...

i learnt my lesson after the anti war dub shit so im very carefull when i post, treat it as a bit of fun, which is what dubstep is about.

sense of humour and jokes are hard to put across on paper and often get misconstrude as digz or threats...

but dont hate the playa hate the game if we cant get on with each other

im still proud to be a member and allways will be

PS

I'm in total agreement with night deposit.

edit:

KION: Hope you understand that my "vinyl or get the fuck out" commet wasn't in the slightest bit to be taken seriously, as I thought I had already covered in the original thread??? 8)

Kion made a good point about people expressing ignorant ideas .. you cant just let that go. However I do miss the mostly positive vibe this forum had and I hope this thread encourages a return to that, but in attracting alot of new members the chances of differing opinions arguments and ignorance occuring increases...

I really enjoy this forum i dont post very often due to the fact im not as knowledgable about the music and artists as other folks so its more of a learning thing for me most days. I post on other forums which i have been part of for alot longer and do feel that dubstepforum is not anywhere near as bitchey and hating as some other forums (which i am finding myself frequent less and less) so in summary positive vibes are always best the worst thing would be if the scene splits and then people start hating on one form of dubstep over another thats when the really stupid arguements begin but as it is i think its all good.
