Big up Subtek (Grime City) on the flyer

JASON MUNDO (Dub Assembly, Dallas) - Fresh off his UK/Ireland Tour, Mundo and Dub Assembly Records continue with a Dubwize bass assault upon the Bay Area! As the Wire says, “don’t assume dubstep is an exclusively South London phenomenon: check the feverish workrate of Jason Mundo, a Texan. This is his third single in as many months, and by the time you’re reading this, no doubt another plate will already be pressed up. Mundo is a disciple of the bottom end, with trademark bass drops. His tunes can be played across dub, dubstep, and breaks sets with equally devastating effect.” In fact he is already on Dub Assembly 06 and with more unreleased dubz on the way. He was dubbed America’s #1 2-Step DJ a few years ago and right now Mundo is ripping up the stateside dubstep scene as one of our top talents. He makes his first west coast trip in over 3 years to lay down the heavy dubwize bizness, so don’t miss this chance to catch one of the brightest stars this side of the pond!

DJ TOMAS (Umoja Soundsystem/Voltage Music) – A man of many aliases – his most famous being Double Identity, his producer title. This makes since he’s a double Gemini who’s played drums in noise rock bands, DJ’ed for over 15 years, written for Urb and XLR8R magazine, and hosted radio shows since the late-80s. The Bay Area native cut his teeth as a reggae radio DJ in high school and also at college station KXLU in LA. He began spinning clubs in 1990 and co-founded (with DJ Daz) the Umoja Soundsystem, a six-person multicultural, multi-genre music crew. While primarily a reggae sound, Umoja also plays hip-hop, soul, electronic, house, broken beat, Latin and Afrobeat – a unity of cultures and ethnicities through music. On the production side, DJ Tomas is a drummer who’s recorded as Double Identity for his own Voltage Music label, as well as others. He has five nujazz/broken beat-style singles out as Double Identity, and tracks floating around the internet under his dub/dubstep alter ego Dub I.D., who he will be performing as this month. Look for the debut Double Identity album in spring ’08. His current monthly residency is La Bodega, at Otis in SF and he co-hosts the Friday Night Session, 10 p.m. Fridays on KUSF 90.3 FM.

MC ZULU (Riddim Killah, Chicago) Following in the footsteps of his Panamanian and Jamaican Dancehall predecessors, ZULU has established himself as a premiere "toaster" for bashment parties around the globe. The "Riddim Killah" refers to his original style as "Reverse 16th or Digital Screw". Zulu is just as comfortable behind the mic as he is behind the scenes in the studio engineering and producing. This month the “Bad Man” sings originals of his own alongside collaborations with our own Kush Arora. Zulu brings the energy so get ready to get hype!

ZEBBLER (Glitchcrew, Boston) This month Surya Dub also welcomes our first guest VJ, Zebbler from Boston’s Glitchcrew. Zebbler stages multimedia performances, usually taking up three projectors of content performed and created by himself or are the result of his collaborations with various electronic music artists, such as Infected Mushroom or the Ozric Tentacles. Last year you might remember the national scare in Boston with an art installation that had l.e.d.’s mistaken for i.e.d. – well Zebbler was the creater and found himself being arrested after shutting down the city of Boston by putting these blinking ads for Aqua Teen Hunger Force movie. Zebbler will provide some extra wizardry and eye candy this month for the Halloween Mashdown. You’re warned!
Surya Dub is the next level in Global Dubwize Vibes and Dread Bass Culture. Surya Dub is uniting all Dubwize sounds from Roots Reggae to Dubstep and Ragga to Dread Bass Breakbeat and Drum'n'Bass to Bhangra, S. Asian Electronica and Global Bass Beat Bizness.
