320kbps MP3. Highest quality MP3, in other words.

In theory... not consent from the artist, but from the label. They own the copyright of the recording, you need to pay them for a license to broadcast their material for commercial purposes (ie - a DJ set)

In practise... bahahaha, play whatever mate. Artists love getting their shit played out, and as far as i know, no one has ever been sued for playing songs as part of a DJ set. Even Tiesto, Fatboy Slim, Andy C, big huge commercial DJs, wouldn't bother with copyright. Play what you want.

Mix CDs are another story, you need licenses every track in the mix before you go putting them out. But burning some CDs of your sets for a few mates or sticking a set up on your myspazz is nothing that any label is ever going to worry about. Sounds like you're a long way off getting a CD out anyway. Stop fretting about The Man and spin some tunes!
