World Politics, Oil Prices, Volatile vibes skeen?

Post by spaceboy » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:12 pm

So come on you political-steppers, lets get a thread going on the state of the world today.

So Iran and the U.S goin on like they always do, love/hate right? Oil Prices fly up...hit $71 today in this morning's trading...means we are less in the pocket amongst many other things.

Inflation...US keep upping interest rates...how long will it go on for...price of borrowing!!

Commodities...anyone who punts you seen the price of gold, copper etc? I missed the boat...India/China bringing the demand....

The future...will oil hit $100?

will there be yet another war?

will america finally get their oil pipeline through the mid-east to them?

What the hell is going on?

The American Government are looking to start back-2-back filming of Vietnam Part 3, before they've even finished part 2. Looks like it's gonna be a piss-poor sequel, just more of the same really.

not too into the token political thread 'speak yr mind' thing but since in here ill say this:
i recently heard on resonance fm that in a survey a majority of americans believed that their country is fighting a War with a capital W, as in a perma-War, a macro-War with a higher purpose. Not in Iraq but all over the world. With no real temporal or geographic limitations. Kind of disturbingly Orwellian.

I wish people would keep a sense of perspective with this stuff, too many get carried away with their anti-Americanism. Not least CND who are opposing the attempts to stop Iran developing nuclear technology. I would have thought they would have been firmly in favour of stopping further proliferation? Oh wait, but America are involved so it must be a bad idea. Twats.

It's funny how the American's completely give India carte-blanche to go ahead with nuclear building-up, but say no to Iran, and both these countries neighbour Pakistan which is a hotbed for "terrorism" and supposedly houses our old chum Osama.

It's not just Iran that are going towards Nuclear power (or back towards it).

India? Pakistan? UK? (yes we're contemplating re-introducing updated nuclear power technology) Double standards? I work for a major international Power company btw, so I see a little of what goes on behind the scenes in that respect.

Iran may have enriched fuel, but they'd have to enrich it 10-fold to what they currently can achieve, for it to be weapons grade. I know it's not PC, but modern safe nuclear power stations have the potential to give cheap and comparitively clean electricity to the whole of Iran.

On the flip-side to that, I think a lot of governments are weary of a state that is seen to support terrorist activity having easy access to radioactive material (rather than the actual potential to build nuclear missiles).

And btw, I'm not for nuclear power whatsoever, would much rather see cleaner altenatives, but dirty and diminishing coal and gas isn't that alternative.

Its a shame all dance related music seems to just focusing on the more escapist ideas, rather than making its content obviously political, and with the exception of anti-war dub, dubstep it seems as well is a little guilty of this (if there is other stuff out there that takes on subjects like this then i apologise for my ignorance of it).
I dont think music for purely music's sake is a bad thing, but maby when we have so much great music that reaches so many differnent people all over the world, maby its smething of a more responsible stance to try and spread awareness over importent issues like this.
Im not talking preaching but at least make people aware that outside of the rave there is serious shit happening, someone once said "while your stupid you pose no threat" and while im not gonna get quick about calling dance fans stupid, replace stupid with "aware" or "actively interested"
