The stoves have been fired up once more in the Schmorgasbord kitchen, as we call upon another highly decorated pair of renegade creative forces to merge their respective styles into two distinct and dangerous recipes.

Bass Clef stands proud as one-man powerhouse of playful electronics, having forged his reputation on the fringes of the dubstep explosion while charging ever forwards with a hands-on approach to performance and production that could never be imitated. Largely self-released but with notable appearances on Punch Drunk and Idle Hands, a great chunk of Mr Clef’s back catalogue has fallen prey to his penchant for cassettes, helped in no small part by the fact that he still records his music in one take straight on to a four track machine…

Frak meanwhile have spent the last 27 years flying the flag for leftfield electronic music with a deadly, simple accuracy that still manages to be delightfully weird. They’ve achieved this from a relatively isolated perspective in small town Sweden, where they formed as a trio at the tender age of 13, and since then have journeyed through harder styles to find more recent recognition on Kontra Musik and Sex Tags Mania with their own take on rough, hand-woven techno. Much like our dear friend Bass Clef, they too channel their musical incantations straight onto tape.

As such we felt the best way to draw upon the considerable talent of each respective party was to request a half-finished sketch of a track each, to be swapped and completed by the other in a glorious celebration of format-driven collaboration and experimentation. What we couldn’t predict is that Bass Clef would jump on the mic and summon up the darkest of chemically-instigated neurological daemons, or that Frak would turn up the heat with one of their most muscular and commanding rhythm tracks to date. We’re over the moon with how this new record tastes and we think you will be too.
